Good friends.good whiskey,good guns
Maybe not in that order but that is,as most of you know, the title of a book from my favorite author,Skeeter Skelton.
About the guns,I own a few good ones;and I was already sold to good whiskey since a good while ago.But good friends,I mean real good ones, are few and far between.Let me tell you about one that has just happened to me.
A few years ago, there was that guy at the range whom I knew because we would say Hi when we met.He was known as the guy with the nice old 19th century guns:Sharp's,Remington Rolling block,Evans,High and Low Wall,Spencer, and on and on(he owns 140 of such). He was sad because 4759 powder had been discontinued and since he was using it as a duplex load for priming his bp 45-70 loads,he'd have to develop a new load.Since I had a few pounds of it,I offered to sell him 1 pound. He was happy as a kid on Christmas eve.
Last week,he phoned me;he and his wife being very sick, they decided to sell the house. He asked me if books were my cup of tea.Answer;positive.I went to his place to find 2 large boxes full of books:Jack O'Connor,Warren Page,Col Wheelen and many others(No Skeeter or Bill Jordan though). When I asked him how much he wanted for the 2 boxes(was ready to shell out $$$ for such)he told me that he remembered a desperate guy being offered some 4759 a few years ago.
Now that guy stands in my short list of real friend!

Not really a friend story, but I called Ruger CS Friday, I have a 1911 that needs work I could have done in a younger day, but now ...
Guy answers the phone, I started off with my problem so they could direct it - this guy speaks up "Hey, Mr. C, long time we haven't heard from you!"
I was amazed that he remembered my voice (I was not on my usual phone, so no CID). We had a great discussion, and he sent a label for a warranty return.
Told him I wasn't shooting much anymore, and my progression. So if you were in line behind me in the queue, apologies. But it made my day that he remembered me!
