Whenever I run into a bona fide old-timer S&W aficionado with factory connections or possible inside knowledge, I always ask the same question: Whatever happened to the mysterious (and still MIA) Model 62?

Being forever OCPD, it bothers me that I have a Model 59, Model 60, Model 61, Model 63, Model 64, Model 65 (just replaced the one I had previously sold :)), Model 66, etc... but I can't ever own a Model 62. Even worse, I don't even know what the Model 62 was intended to be. I can't figure it out!

The Bible is no help unless I am sorely missing something. I'm gotten a few joke answers over the years, but nothing to take seriously. :o

Picking up my new (to me) Model 65 the other day got me thinking about this troubling dilemma yet again. :( Now, I can't sleep. :o

Someone here must know something... yes? Bueller??? Bueller??? ;)

I have wondered this myself. When you look at the whole 60 series, what doesn't belong? The Model 61.

We need to petition them to make one. Think how many they will sell...

Well, I'd buy one just so I could sleep again! :D

It's tough having this OCPD thing. :o

Boy oh boy, you guys are a bunch of dummies.

Not worth telling you what it is and the
story behind it.
Please? Please? Please? :D

Or do you just have another joke story about how the guy who was designing the Model 62 left suddenly and went to work for Ruger? ;)

TTSH,

No, it's not another joke about the designer going
to Ruger.

But I will give you a hint: Only 207 were made
and all including the prototype were shipped
in total secrecy to the Department of Defense,
Freedonia, middle Europe.

That's all the help I'll give you.

Oh yeah! :p Right next door to Elbonia! :D

But the Duck Soup is in Freedonia ...

Bekeart

That's another story and a mystery as well.

However, as a point of fact Elbonia abuts
the Duchy of Fenwick.
Somehow, I don't think you two gentlemen are taking my problem seriously. ;)

There has got to be some explanation about why there is no S&W Model 62... and I sure would like to know it! :)

It was supposed to be the .25 ACP version of the Model 61, but then the engineers sobered up and said "What were we thinking...???"

Could it be

In the words of Oak Island "could it be the tunnel rat revolver that didn't have flash or noise".

I guess that's as good a guess as any of mine. :p

All kidding aside, I'd really like to know what happened to good old Model 62. :o Model 62, we hardly knew ya...

Nobody knows, they are just pretending they know something. They must be watching to much of the news broadcast recently.

Seriously :):):):)

maybe Smith didn't want to introduce a "Model 62"
for advertising purposes that had the same number
as the Winchester 62 pump .22 or have it follow
a Smith auto, the Model 61.

The tiny auto was dropped in 1973 and the Model
63 stainless revolver was introduced in 1977
