Fiber Optics or Laser sights, which do you prefer?
Hate to admit it but my eyes are not as good as they used to be. Just can not get a good look at the iron sights on a hand gun at arms reach. I'm not sure if a red fiber optic front sight would help or if I should jump straight to a Crimson Trace laser grip. Talking about a 1917 revolver.

Have no use for laser sights. However, I would hate to have to alter the original sights on such a nice gun. And fiber optic sights are useless in low light. So I guess I would vote for the laser and a good flashlight.

I've been "point shooting" for 10 years. That's probably how I would shoot in a SD situation. Joe

Never been a fan of fiber optics. They just don't look right to me.
Lasers are good in low light, but tend to disappear in bright light.
I also have trouble seeing the sights at arms length. So for the last few years at defense distances, I've just more or less been point shooting. With a little practice, it works just fine.

Wife and I both have laser sights on our "night stand" guns for shooting in the dark (REMEMBER: Light travels in a straight line and bullets have an arcing trajectory==negligible at most distances but it is there), as a deterrent. She has iron sights on both her EDC Glocks and I have Tru-Glos on both of mine.

Thanks Bear, that gives me another option. Save the original front barrel and get a replacement cut to 3" and install a tru glow front sight.

I'm more of a "Night Sights" kinda guy, one step up from iron sights.
Now that I said that I have to confess I just bought my first red dot for my SBR...

I have, in the past, put Tru-Glo sights on revolvers, notably newer S & W, esp. snubbies. I like your "belly gun idea. Might look at a Mod. 25 barrel if the threads are the same (?)

Daniel, from my experience you'll be able to see the fiber optics a little better but they'll still be fuzzy.

Neither. Red dot for me.
Laser is good for HD in low light. For range shooting try a dot.
Of course you might have problems with one of those also so best to test drive before you buy.

I think I would just paint the front sight. Finger nail polish works great.

Green Laser?
My green Lasergrip is much better in daylight than the red one.
Works good with my tired old eyes.

Try putting a little dot of whiteout on the sight and see if that helps. It did for me and it comes off really easy if you don't like it.

I don't like laser. I find them very distracting because they show me how unsteady my hands really are.

I've never owned a Red Dot or Laser Sight - probably never will! When I was on my Clubs pistol team I was the sole shooter with iron sights on my Gold Cup and M41. I had no problem keeping up or out shooting the guys with the fancy sights. Not only do I dislike them but almost feel as though it's sort of cheating ( relying on technology rather than the basic skills).
I know I'm probably in the minority but it wouldn't be the first time.

I have a CT laser on my 442. It's sights are basic at best. I consider it a close quarters gun and as such, there may be a situation where I'm unable to raise the gun to get a line via the sights. A laser allows me to shoot from less than perfect positions.

Red dot is first choice, then night sights. Neither were a poll option, so maybe not a consideration of yours.
Of your options though, fiber optics. Green works best for me. That was what I used shooting USPSA, then went to a red dot and found out what I had been missing.
For a carry or nightstand gun though, red dot all day. Vortex Venom or Viper. Low profile, parallax free, and both eyes open shooting gives you great situational awareness and quick target acquisition.

You are correct.
It's not the arrow, it's the Indian.
Although I am sure you realize it is taking advantage of technology to do the best at the game being played which is what competitive shooting mostly is in my opinion.
Back on topic....

with iron sighhts, i get maybe an 8'' group at 25 yards,
with a nice red dot, sometimes i get 5 shots into a 1 1/4'' hole.
no sense in using anything else.
