That was cool!
Your food names have such a romantic allure to them.
I can't top that as the menu from my home country reads like a eulogy.

....and that's why great Operas are not in German.
Baking Ciabatta and Pane di Altamura this week.
Gotta be tasty for the Italian branch of the family.
Always good for Trap if overbaked.
Blueberry Cornbread tonight.

Thanks Sal, that was a great way to whet the appetite for the Christmas Eve meal, and bring back fond memories.
I used to be so excited as a child, when the whole family would meet at grandma's house. She was the general from Naples Italy, and her American daughters were her troops, as the house filled with generations of hungry family.
Grandma leading her daughters.
Today, I'm the matriarch, as my sister and I now lead the dinner. It warms my heart like nothing else, to witness the good memories of family being passed down.
20 years ago I taught my eldest two grandchildren to make rice balls for Christmas Eve, when they were 5 and 6 years old. Now my two youngest grandchildren are making Christmas cookies, and they are 5 and six years old.
May all of you feel the love of Christ on Christmas and throughout your lives, and may God protect those who go in harms way for us.

I am half Italian and half Sicilian and bigwheelzip's photo reminds me very much of my own grandma's kitchen. Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners with my grandparents, aunts & uncles and cousins were legendary.

when you say rice balls, do you mean arancini? more cone shaped with meat and peas in the middle?

One of our family traditions on Christmas morning was to make ravioli for dinner.
My dad mixed and kneaded the dough while my mom prepared the filling.
My brother and I would roll out the dough into sheets using a Urania hand cranked pasta rolling machine.
Then my mom would spread the filling on one sheet and cover it with another sheet and my dad would use a press to form the dumplings.
My sisters then used a pastry cutter to separate the dumplings and put them on trays until it was time to cook them.
We were able to produce a lot of ravioli this way and it made our dinner really special.

My Sicilian daughter-in-law makes them with meat and peas.
Grandma's recipe cooked the rice in chicken broth, then mixes the cooked rice with ricotta and pecorino romano cheeses. Egg yolk helps hold the mix together in a ball and a chunk of mozzarella is pushed into the center. Bread and fry.

To further illustrate the English penchant for unappealing sounding food names:
Toad in the Hole.
Bubble and Squeek.
Singin' Hinnies.
Barm Brack.
Bedfordshire Clanger.
Cullen Skink.
Rumbledethumps.
Sussex Pond Pudding.
Lucky Tatties.
Soor Plooms.
Scouse.
Yarg.
And the all time champ: Spotted Dick.
This is why menus have pictures.

One of my favorites as a kid.

Almost Pane di Altamura.
The kids wanted to buy us some electrics like DeathGrip but there are times we like no electron excitation RF in the air.
Biga had 50 grams of all purpose flour due to the Sour Dough (50/50 mix) being feed that way for years and dusting while shaping.
I've been using a method similar to Kirkwood , flipping the dough, regardless of hydration or bread style.
