I was looking for a small handgun sized reflex sight, so I perused E-Bay. The one that caught my eye was the subject model. There were several ads, all selling for about 40 bucks.

My next step was to go to the Trijicon site to get more specs and maybe look at an installation manual. Wholly mackerel, they were priced at several HUNDRED bucks.

The pictures of the cheepies all show the Trijicom logo, and also the "Made in USA" statement. Anybody know what's up? Are these cheap china knockoffs, or bootleg items?

The military has a bottomless checkbook, and they buy lots of the good stuff. Economical law of supply and demand says: If it sells well, it will also sell for more!

To the OP, I cannot answer your question on the Trijicon RMR. A few years ago I bought a larger size red dot sight off of eBay to try on a lever action rifle, forward mount style versus a low power scope I used till then. Saved dollars, and the red dot type worked well, but did have an oddity. The various red dot options were weird symbols instead of the dot, abbreviated crosshairs, or small circle I was expecting. Never did get used to them, but for a few dollars saved, I learned my aged eyes preferred the low power scope crosshairs. So be aware, sometimes what you get off eBay is sometimes unexpected which is why the vender can sell it for the eBay price, he got somebodies unwanted stock.

*Looked on eBay for Trijicon RMR and the ones I saw listed for less than $100 had the words " clone... RMR footprint... Reproduction, etc. Sometimes prominent, sometimes not prominent In the ads, so read closely!

You cannot buy a true, working, even used Trij RMR for less than a couple hundred bucks.

I paid about $250 for a good used one about five years ago, and I have bought three (real) new ones for $350 ( on close out) to $425. These were the Type 1.

The Type 2 came out about 2 1/2 years ago and fetches $400-$450.

'If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is'....as the ol' saying goes. Two of the most counterfeited optics on e-Bay are Trijicon & EoTech. Like CB3 said, you can't touch anything from Trijicon for less that several hundred dollars.

eBay and Amazon are rife with knock offs. Buyer beware.

Take a look at the Burris Fastfire or the Vortex. Both close to same size and operation. Usually in the $250 to $300 range. I've had two Fastfire's a #2 and a #3. The 2 is a non adjustable brightness dot in 4 MOA, it is automatic and adjusts the the ambient light to give you the brightness. The #3 has 4 dot brightness positions plus one of them is an automatic, so you can select what you like best. The #3 is either a 3MOA or a 6MOA size dot.
