"Cheaper than Dirt" accused of price gouging
There was a story in this morning's paper about 123 complaints of price gouging on ammunition by Cheaper than Dirt (Fort Worth) filed with the Texas Attorney General. Allegations include tripling of prices on ammunition over the last two weeks and cancelling orders to get higher prices. Texas does have an anti-price gouging law, but it is unclear if it can be applied to ammunition.

FWIW I think it should. Hope Lower Than Dirt gets what they have coming to them.

They did the same thing back during the last ammunition shortage.
Kept the prices up even when the supply was catching up.
Never do business with them.

Cheaper than Dirt has done this for the past 10 or more years. In 2008 they did it, after nearly every mass casualty incident they did it and during any "panic" they do it.
I would never do business with them. I can understand if prices go up a bit.....cause everything fluctuates given different variables however CTD was selling 1,000 rounds of 556 for $800. Thats ridiculous.
As for price gouging on ammo......Thats going to be a tricky one since price gouging laws usually apply to "essential" materials like food, water, gas. Now if gun shops are deemed "essential" in a given state...I would think price gouging laws would apply.

It doesn't take a law for us consumers to look and see how companies treat us at any given time.
Cheaper Than Dirt has proven to gun people time and again who they are and how willing they are to take advantage of us.
The solution for me is simple. They don't exist to me.

After all the past years doing the same thing, I do not see how they stayed in business. Even with "normal pricing" they are not that cheap, service sucks, cs is rude and may times out of stock
I bought two things from them years ago. That was it.
Actually buying dirt is very expensive these days.
But lets have another CTD thread

All I ever have heard about CTD is complaints. Buy. Complain. Buy. Complain.

Raising prices on goods like ammo which most people would view as non-essential is unlikely to get them in trouble with anyone but the good graces of their remaining customers.
But canceling previously placed orders so they can sell the stuff at their new higher prices should impact contract law and a good attorney should be able to make some hay with that if the order was substantial enough to be significant. That’s apart from any “price gouging”.

Years ago, prolly about the dawn of the online buying age, I spent a lot=A LOT-of $ buying online.
It didn't take me long-and I was always a bit slow-to figure out that I really didn't like the way CTD did business and I fired them from putting their mitts on my credit card.
Never, ever considered buying from them again.

Maybe Cheaper Than Dirt, Inc should be Cheaper Than Dirt, Isn't.
The other day they were around $1/round for a case of 1,000 steel cased Tula.
It'd have to be really end times or a really ignorant buyer to take that deal.

There are too many decent options to give CTD a second look. Buy elsewhere.

If people keep buying from them they'll keep doing it. Time for a boycott.

It is a catchy name for a business.
It don't reflect their business model.
Before you buy go to ammo seek dot com for best current prices from lots of sources. I've never seen CTD listed, not saying they haven't made top listing but I haven't seen it.

In all my years of online purchasing I have never found Cheaper Than Dirt to be competitive enough with their pricing to consider a purchase from them, so I just don't buy from them people.

They actually used to be pretty good, when they first
started out (1993-ish?).
Wonder if they use the classic gouger's excuse,
"no one's making them pay our price"?
Always so persuasive!

Doesn't matter who is wholesaling them, bulk 525 Federal plated ammo will be at least $80 and probably $100 if'n we ever get to another gunshow. Like toilet paper, it's better to buy it before you need it. Joe

CTD are well know dirtbags, haven’t bought a thing from them since they showed their colors during the Obama shortages. Too bad, they were a good source at one point. I understand scarce goods going up in cost/free market, but their practices were terrible. Hope they get what’s coming to them!

15, maybe 20 years ago I was going to order 3 small items from CTD. Then when checking out they wanted to charge me separate shipping on each item. The shipping would have almost doubled the cost. I canceled the order and have never been back.
They aren't cheaper than dirt. They ARE dirt!

Found a hard to find magazine on CTD and the price was not too bad. However when I went to check out they wanted $17.95 shipping. Midway charges $4.95 to ship a single magazine. Last time I ever bought anything from them.
