So this happened yesterday...

I always admired Henrik Fisker designs, starting with the Aston Martin DB9 and Vantage. I actually drove a DB9 once when I still worked in the automotive business. Loved it.

But I was definitely sold on Fisker designs/products when I saw the Fisker Tramonto, especially since I worked for Mercedes-Benz at that time and the Tramonto is based on the SL55AMG and the 600 V12. This car is just beautiful and one day I might to be able to afford one (never say never!).

So, I know I was outspoken on EV's, and for several reasons I'm against full-electric vehicles, I'd rather have a hybrid. But, and please hear me out, this vehicle is scheduled to arrive in 2022. Many things can happen until then. We'll see what the Fisker Solid State Battery Tech holds. Perhaps it's more environmentally friendly (in production and perhaps it's recyclable?), I don't know. We'll see what the service network looks like as well as the technology in general.

But again, I love Fisker designs (even the logo hits emotions; I can feel the warm ocean breeze and hear that waves breaking on the beach) and if I buy an electric car it would be definitely from this company!

Fun fact, the Fisker Ocean is about the same length and width as our 2015 Dodge Dart;

Ocean 182.7" length and 76" width.

Dart 183.9" length and 72" width.

Perfect for a nice grocery getter.

Just remember that the electricity HAS to some from somewhere. The inefficiencies alone in transforming energy from one type to another will even out any benefits without even factoring in stuff like replacing batteries and such.

Oh absolutely. I can't afford any of his other designs or coach builds, this one I can afford and I'm happy to be along for the ride until they realize the project.

The car is scheduled to be released in 2022 but I don't know what month, so it might be easily another 2 years before they hit the roads.

Until then we'll see what their tech can produce and how we go about service, repair, etc. I'm most excited about the battery tech... wonder what they have in the pipeline for that.

More info and detailed specs (HP, towing capacity, etc) are to be released in 2021.

I'm excited to be now part of it and if I don't like it for whatever reason the deposit is refundable, but it gets my name on the list ;)

Those smelly, loud, smoke-belching, self-propelled carriages will never be faster than a horse.

You can't even feed one hay, you need to put gross petro-latum distillates in a tank and carry it around with you ! Fire hazard !

:D

After posting in the great Corvette thread this morning, we had to make a bit of a drive to meet with a gentleman on a business matter. I was thinking on the drive—after seeing a Tesla model S that made my Shelby Cobra GT500 Super Snake seem like it was go-cart acceleration wise, and reading of an electric Corvette—that I bet we are in the final days of internal combustion. I believe I even read there is an electric Harley!

I guess the old dinosaurs had a good run on earth and as fossil fuels. Who knew the batteries would ultimately win out.

Henrik Fisker also designed a modern classic, the BMW Z8.

I'm still not a BMW fan, but look at his other vehicles like the EMotion, Atlantic, Sunset, his Rocket Mustangs and the cars he turned out from VLF. He designed a bike, watches as well as furniture. Crazy...

Can you get it with a Slant Six?

Ha. That'd be great...

Yes, there's a Harley. But others offer electric mopeds as well.

I'm afraid you are right. Give it another 10-15 years... until all the little issues are worked out and all the infrastructure is built.

We already have power plants and gas stations can be converted to charging stations.

I hate to say it but I think it is the future. Still gonna keep my Hemi though ;)

John, if you've never been there, the Shelby Museum in Vegas.

Mustangs come in, Shelby's go out, here. Conversions, right in the museum,

The museum

Welcome to your area charging station, please take a number and stay within the painted lines. You are currently 26th in line for your 15 minute charge. Thank you and have a nice day. We will be with you shortly.

I lived through the 70's gas shortage, be danged if I'm waiting in line for electricity.

Didn't Fisker go out of business once already? I kinda remember they were powered with hundreds of D cell-sized batteries?

The local high-end car dealer here was selling them. After the cars had no support they were converting them to internal combustion engines. I haven't seen one in quite a while.

Fisker Automotive did and that was with the Karma, the battery supplier went out of business I believe therefore his business tanked. Karma was sold to China.

Fisker Inc. is alive and breathing :)

I also believe that internal combustion is coming into its twilight years.

But, I am not impressed the environmentally friendly label at this point. Lithium mining alone is not Eco friendly and we still use a lot of coal produced electricity, even the Wind mills uses a lot of steel to make. Steel smelted with coal, Hydro electric has its own problems.

I do believe that right now the best choice would be a hybrid. Here about the only choice. Nearest charging station is over 100 miles away. Butt, hey no waiting as I have never seen anyone using either of the ones I know about. LOL
