Ennio Morricone has passed
The great Italian movie composer died in Rome at age 91 on Monday.
Here is what for me has always been the most memorable combination of his music and Sergio Leone as director.
All for one shot. But a most impressive gun fight.

I have the sound track from The Good,Bad and Ugly on CD and when it plays many people have asked me what it is. They are stunned to hear it is from an old western. If a movie has a bad score it usually does not do well at the box office. No surprise. Ennio added the frosting to many classic movies. His style was unique.

My favorite of his has always been Ecstasy of Gold.
For me, Tuco running through the graveyard searching for gold is the movie:

I have always found it interesting that the Italians out-westerned the Western.

Well, one can argue whether that improves it
While he composed lots of other music, I think he still holds a record with over 500 movie scores written, and if you ask somebody to whistle a Morricone tune that didn’t come from a movie, you’re unlikely to get anything ...

Rest in Peace, Ennio Morricone
It don't get no better than Ennio Morricone soundtracks.
Simply classics and I'm sad to hear of his passing.
Bravo, and thanks for all the songs and memories.

Truly one of the great Masters of Mood.
I am grateful that he left so much work for others to study and emulate.
Journey well, Maestro.

Can I overuse a word one more time?
He was AWESOME. I've got a lot his music on my cell phone that I listen to when traveling.

From what I've read, the piece "Ecstasy of Gold" was composed before the scene was shot. Nevertheless, it mated perfectly with the action. I've watched this scene perhaps 100s of times and hope to watch it 100s of times in the future.
I also adore the title track of GBU, but believe that the title track of "For A Few $s More" was perhaps better. A 10 vs a 10.1!
R.I.P., Signor Morricone. Mille grazie.

Another irony along with the Italians out-doing so many of our great directors of the Westerns, is the fact that I think the Danish Symphony, when they did their tribute shown in various videos above, played the music better than the original pieces.

my music taste is usually the Doors and Jimi Hendrix but I would pay to see the Danish Symphony. they are really good. I doubt however that they are going to show up in Minden anytime soon or anywhere in Nebraska either for that matter

Morricone was the Master. His music was in many films the thing that carried the film through to a higher level. Let's not forget 'The Untouchables'. Esp. Capone's theme. But all his soundtracks were great. I'm starting to get into his Giallo music, he did so many soundtracks!

I always liked this very 60s theme to a little known Rock Hudson movie called A Fine Pair.

I had my John Williams phase in life too. Owned quite a few of his more famous soundtrack albums. Also an enormously talented composer.
But for some reason I outgrew the somewhat bombastic style of his classics at some point. I started to find the brass-and percussion heavy blasts of his most famous stuff, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Superman, too “noisy”. A bit like Wagner
Haven’t consciously listened to a Williams soundtrack album for quite a few years. Probably should.
In contrast, once hooked on Morricone, it’s been for life. The harmonica is currently my phone’s text alert.
PS: One obvious exception to the “bombastic” comment above: “Schindler’s List”. But that’s too depressing to listen to a lot.

This has always been a favorite of mine as well. It it still quite popular today; played by Metallica and also used in Modelo commercials. Which is an excellent beer!
