"Death Hunt' is one of the greatest gun/guy movies of all time, set in the Northern Territories in 1931, the guns used transition the old west with the new modern era. Yet the film was only about 1% true. The endurance of "The Mad Trapper" Albert Johnson surviving so long was amazing. The identity of this murderer was discovered by author Dick North in the book "The Mad Trapper of Rat River". Bronson uses an 1899 Savage as did Johnson, whose was a .30-30. And he was an uncanny shot, sadly for the Mounties.

That's a great true story. I've read the book.

The pictures taken of the final confrontation on the river ice from May's airplane are considered to be the very first gunfight photographed from overhead.

The granddaddy of all those helicopter police chase videos :)

I think it was also the first time a crime in progress was followed through social media, in this case people listening to the radio about it. In the book there's marks on that aerial photo where the Mounties and guides who got him were. This situation, the hunt for "Willie Boy" in the Mojave Desert in 1909, and the exploits of Frank Hamer show how effective the .30-30 caliber is when used for defense.
