US Marine Silent Drill Platoon at Fort Henry 2015

" One a Marine, always a Marine". This is why us old Marines snap to attention whenever the Marine Corps Hymn is played and always greet other Marines with " Semper Fi". We did more with less depending on how much we could steal from the Army. We always thought of it as " reallocation of combat resources to fighting units". We all payed a price for our service and I will not diminish anyones service and thank each and every veteran for what they did in the service to our country. Some served, most did not.

Outstanding. Those guys are at it constantly. Making it perfect.

The M14 is a great drill rifle. Would never ever look that great with any AR. What a rifle. At 500 meters fully capable of a kill shot round after round. Never faltering. Never had one malfunction on the range.

I remember inspection arms. Bring it up to port arms and snapping the bolt back latching it open. Having it snatched from my hands then popped back in them.

Those guys are over the top

Just like in life, not everything goes right all the time.

That used to be one of the top , if not THE top posting in the Corps . It's up there with Embassy Duty and DI Duty , but then every young marine wants to be a DI . That is poetry in motion , about the only statement that I can think of to describe it . Semper Fi

Those are M1 rifles and when I was in Military school we marched with them way too much. We got very good with the marching part but I think that the school thought we would kill each other if they gave us bayonets and let us throw the things around like that. Had too many M1 thumbs as it was with the new cadets. All in all no one beats the US Marines

I always like watching these precision drills. But it does cause me to remember an unpleasant experience in Navy boot camp. We trained with the old Springfield rifles with the barrels leaded in.

The exercise we learned was called the 16-count manual. You start at attention and on :
.1 go to port arms
.2 right shoulder arms
.3 left shoulder arms
.4 Parade rest
. 5 - 16 etc

Not sure about the sequence order but you get the idea. It was kinda fun to do...with the rifle. But on occasion, just to keep every one from getting too comfortable we had to pack our sea bags with every thing we owned and do the 16-count manual with the full sea bag.

Of course no one could do it at all but the unfun part is that while you were struggling with it the CC was in your face yelling and blowing spit all over you and your sea bag.

That was just one of the fun things we got to do for our 16 week boot camp. There were others and some were worse.

I say with great respect its like watching the industrial robots on the assembly lines doing their intricate "dance'' as they weld and maneuver parts around.

Is this the same drill team that was in the beginning of the movie "A few good men"?

Gotta say I get goosebumps every time I see the Silent Drill Team. My wife and I had the great honor and blessing to take my my mom and dad (also a USMC veteran) to Washington DC many years ago. The two highlights were watching my dad walk up and touch the Iwo Jima Memorial (brought tears to my eyes), and attending the US Marine Corps Summer Parade at Marine Corps Barracks Eighth and I. The USMC Silent Drill Team, The Marine Corps Band ("The Presidents Own"), and The Marine Corps Fife and Drum Corps all perform together in a Spectacular Show. If you are ever in DC during the summer months it is a worthwhile experience, held on Friday nights precisely at 8pm. We got VIP tickets through our Senate or Representative office (can't remember for sure). Semper Fi!
