In my 22 years on the internet this is the best sight by far and what ever is in 2nd place isn't even close. I've watched 'em get started and even helped to start some...only to see them decline as the undesirable elements show up.
As we have discussed, the secret to this sites success and consistent goodness is the diligence of the boss and his staff. No matter what else you do or don't do if you don't take out the trash and sweep the floor sometimes it will eventually fall into decline.

The moderators do a good job enforcing the rules, and that’s what makes this work so well. I’ve been dinged a few times due to my own stupidity.

You guys are a bunch of suckups. 
Yes this is a well run forum but there are others. I've been a member on a car forum for 17 years that's also very well moderated.
But then I'm also a member on another well known car forum that's basically no rules at all, and that can have it's own attraction in a way. You just have to enroll a lot of people on your ignore list on those forums.
Besides good moderation an essential need for forums these days is enough members to keep it interesting. Unfortunately some good forums lost too many members to the FB craze to remain viable. As a general rule I think the forums that still have a large number of members tend to have more older members who used this format before there even was a FB.

I went off FB completely.
I belonged to some car pages, some railroad and historical pages, and liked them a lot.
The rest of FB? No thanks. Total dumpster fire.
