USPS delivered my package cut open
I got a gift certificate and I ordered some parts for my late 70's F-150. Nothing expensive, just parts.
I met the mail man at the mail box and he handed me the box. The box was smashed on one end and I said, "I hope everything is there!" His reply, "Me too!"
A closer look revealed that box wasn't just smashed, but the fiber tape was cut open. Given the amount of tape, the box wouldn't have opened if it were just smashed, it was deliberately cut open.
Here's what was in the box:
-Two flat plastic pieces of plastic that are the wheel well inner fenders on the bed.
-Turn signal relay
-Door switch for the interior lights
-Rubber bumpers for various doors
-Assorted trim clips
-Two wiring harness pig tails
The box was 24" X 12" X 3".
To my surprise, after checking the packing list, everything was still there!
Makes you go hmmmm...

That just means you didn't have anything they wanted...
I'm still waiting for a package with signature required that was supposed to be delivered Monday- just up and into the ether between St Louis and NC...

Yup. I mail an assortment of stuff to Switzerland, which included a bottle of Kahlua. The bottle arrived empty.

My thoughts, the package went through an x-ray machine and the contents may have looked like an explosive device to someone.
But, there again, if someone thought it was something nefarious why did they compromise the packaging? Ha. Kaboom!
Just some thoughts.

Of course they didn't need to open it to see if they wanted anything. The Customs Declaration listed everything.

With the relay, door switch and pig tails, I was thinking that, too.
The box was clearly marked where it was from - it's a big parts company.
If they did cut it open to look, they could've at least, taped it back up. It even looked like it was run over with something, too.

I had a similar incident with a box of cigars that I ordered online. The box was torn open with the contents easily accessible but everything that I ordered was in the box.
Two boxes of cigars, a bundle of five cigars and a can cozy.

I ordered a hydraulic crane and the box was shredded. I’d bet my life something was missing. It was all there down to the nuts and bolts.
I had a rifle delivered and the box was almost completely in half. The gal who delivered it said check it. Her eyes popped out when she seen what it was. Perfect fiddle back stock a really Purdy one.
I just lost two cases of Halloween candy, the email said the boxes were trashed at the hub as per amazon in the next town. I waited but amazon never contacted me. I had to email them for credit. The candy was free. I got the credit and purchased it again for free it arrived.

Auntie sends a Christmas card postmarked Aspen Co. every year. It never arrives unopened. Don’t have a clue as to what postal location it is opened but, someone must have stolen granny’s Christmas cash mailed to the grandkids thru the Aspen PO before. Any other time of the year her mail arrives without being inspected.

I had one show up five months late with tire marks on it. The vendor had already refunded us, so we had a refund and the product. Good day . . .

I can remember way way back that many mailed items had labels on them that said something like this. I think it was in the 50s.
Postmaster this package can be opened for postal inspection.

I ordered 50 large peat moss pots for the wife to use early next year in green house. I got a basically destroyed box with the correct tracking numbers. No pots, just 2 large, green, odd, hand held scoops. Post lady and I laugh about it. She had no clue what happened where.

I worked at Oops, uh, I mean UPS for almost 4 years in college. I was an unloader, sorter, and rewrap clerk.
I will not even attempt to say theft didn't happen, but even in the 80's, there were cameras everywhere inside the hub buildings,
Packages got wrecked constantly, either from rough handling, truck loaders, sorters getting overwhelmed, and from simple jams on the conveyors and rollers. Markings for "up" or "fragile" meant nothing. You didn't have time. Their idea of motivating was yelling louder. If the biggest offender got promoted to Sup, they became the biggest pr**ks. But, if you wanted to keep your PT union job, with medical bene's, that worked around your class schedule, you put up with it.
As a rewrap clerk, I was one of a handful of people permitted to cut open boxes for repair, or for address correction. Everyone there was bonded and fingerprinted. Some cared, a lot didn't.
I doubt USPS or FedEx is much different.

Sold a holster on the forum here recently and sent it USPS Priority Mail inside one of the little boxes the PO provides for Priority Mail. Arrived empty, with the flaps on the ends open. First time that's happened. In the future, will tape down the flaps.
Buyer and I guess that it was torn open in a sorting machine.
Fortunately, I added extra insurance to fully cover the cost if lost.

When we finally went Amazon Prime, our first order was a Samsung pad for the MBH. We also ordered a 128 GB memory chip for it.
The pad came in ok, but the memory chip had been opened, the bubble pack retaped and shipped from Amazon. I returned it and requested another, unopened one. Received the package, a huge plastic envelope, just like the first one arrived in.
The envelope was sealed but completely empty, you could see through it and tell that nothing was in it. I finally was able to find the chat problem solver and a young lady had me open the package even though I explained that I could see through it and feel that nothing was in it.
I again asked for a replacement. She made sure there was a part in stock and had it shipped to me. This time I received a unopened package with the correct item. They issued us credit for the part that we did not receive. But it was a tremendous hassle to get the problem solved.
In my opinion the Amazon Prime is not as good as it is cracked up to be.
Have a blessed day,
Leon

USPS is literally overwhelmed right now.
They deliver TON of Prime these days.
I marvel that they still deliver as well as they do.

A very good reason not to send a handgun via any carrier and claim “machine parts” to save a few bucks.

I'm a part time driver for a company that contracts with the USPS to haul mail from 10 rural post offices to a main distribution center and then haul back the next days mail.
The biggest post office on my route used to have two mini vans to deliver mail and now they have two large Ram vans. They can not hire additional personnel due to policy.
These days when I arrive at the post office at 5:00 there are generally 5 pallets of Prime sitting on the loading dock on top of the regular mail. It never used to be like that and this year I'm going back to help with the Christmas rush a week early.
The distribution center I haul to and from does not have any x-ray machines to check packages or drug sniffing dogs. I know I've hauled marijuana before.
I've watched how mail gets handled and I will tell you to double up on you packing and taping.
If you want it handled nicely I suggest you wrap in b-day paper and write from grandma on it.
I feel bad for those who have had problems with items they've shipped and I also feel bad for all the carriers.
Blame covid for it. I seldom ever get my Prime in two days.

I got the second half of my order today. This order came from a different company, but it was on the same order as the originating company. It's a wiring harness with relays for direct battery power hook up for the headlights. It wasn't opened all the way, but it had a razor cut a quarter of the way though the fiber tape on one of the flaps. It too was clearly marked from where it was coming from, along with tracking.
Strange...

Post 9/11 and the mail-in anthrax scares I've had mail opened/inspected on an almost weekly basis. Any remotely bulky envelope or small box is a target. They had great fun with a taped up package containing three mags that was delivered this week.

Spoofing package sources is easy. If I was in the "check for bad packages" industry, I wouldn't take the labels for granted, either.

In September I ordered a trailer hitch from Parts Geek. They sent me a muffler. Big mess but I finally got a credit on my CC today.
In October I ordered a bar stool on wheels
from Wal-Mart. They sent me a Beauty Salon style chair, with a big hair dryer attached.
Also in October I ordered a spare tire winch for my Jeep GC and it vanished. I got a refund a this past week. Amazon Prime has failed miserably at getting me 2nd day service because my local post office folks couldn't care less.

I used to work at a Distributor for "Dietary Supplements" and such Hokum.
We carried one particularly expensive item imported from
Israel which suddenly started coming in with the boxes smashed and torn open.
I was the Receiver, so I had to take photos of each box, finish opening them, and physically count the bottles.
As it turned out after several months, an employee at the Shipping Company was stealing the product, and his girlfriend was selling it on E-Bay!!

I was told once by a postal clerk to never mail a package which was small enough to fit into a pocket, because that is probably where it will end up.

See this box?
Take a good look at this box.
That hole in the corner of THIS box had the full SIX INCHES of the barrel of a K22 5 screw Masterpiece sticking out of it.
When I got it from my dealer/LGS he informed me that it was handed to him like that. Box was shipped to Texas from back east and it arrived with my new gun's complete barrel sticking out.
Holy dung heap Batman.
I borrowed my dealer friends magnifiers and fully inspected the gun...
I took it home.
Zero damage.
I still own that gun to this day.
enjoy,
bdGreen

That hole in the corner of THIS box had the full SIX INCHES of the barrel of a K22 5 screw Masterpiece sticking out of it.
When I got it from my dealer/LGS he informed me that it was handed to him like that. Box was shipped to Texas from back east and it arrived with my new gun's complete barrel sticking out.
Holy dung heap Batman.
I borrowed my dealer friends magnifiers and fully inspected the gun...
I took it home.
Zero damage.
I still own that gun to this day.
enjoy,
