Default Question about Silicone-Treated Gun Socks?

I've got a bunch of "old" silicone-treated gun socks and I'm wondering if they can be "rejuvenated" by spraying them with silicone spray. Has anyone done this?

Don

Do to lack of shelve space in my safes, years ago I bought a package of polyester micro fleece towels, commonly used for washing and waxing cars. Give one a good spraying with Birchwood Casey "Barricade" rust preventative, lay it flat on a shelve, lay a layer of handguns down, another treated fleece towel, another layer of guns, and so on. Not pretty, but it works for the handguns I seldom use.

Not the same thing, but I guess I am saying there should be no reason why it shouldn't work, as these socks are usually made of similar material, and the principal is the same.

Larry

What I do is every now and then spray a microfiber cloth with silicone spray, wipe the guns down, and put 'em back in the silicone sock. But I think spraying the inside of the sock with silicone spray, and scrunching it a bit to get the silicone absorbed would rejuvenate it.

I spray everything with G96 Gun Treatment. Wipe down rags, inside of foam gun cases, gun socks, etc. Never had any adverse issues, But, I make it a point to not use any type of gun case for long term storage.

I've had very good luck over several decades with simply wiping down all guns regardless of composition with a lightly oiled soft cloth. I do this every time after cleaning and I generally shoot everything at least annually, though many are fired far more often. Everything is stored in a safe without any humidity gizmos, etc., but I live in an area where humidity is not a big problem.

I'd be reluctant to store a gun inside a gun case, sock, etc. but these may work for some. I do have a friend with a very large collection that includes many antique handguns. He puts the handguns in untreated white cotton socks and has been doing so for a long time without problem, but I'm pretty sure everything gets the oily rag wipedown occasionally.

Breakfree rubdown and into a gun rug. No silicone for me.

Good idea. I always thought of the Crown Royal bag as ‘treating‘ me.

I do exactly what Onomea (comment #3) suggests, and it works with great success. I've used a silicone wipe down rag on my handguns and putting them in Sack-Ups gun socks before storing them in my safe for years. It doesn't take much to refresh the gun socks.

RIG on the outsides.

Corrosion X on the insides.

Bore Stores all the way.

Although, I still have a few of the 'commoner's' in clean white cotton socks. Been in there for decades. Wiped down with RIG, of course.
