Cornhole...
That's right! Cornhole!
No reference to Beavis and Butthead.
Turned on the TV yesterday to watch some Golf. Tuned in channel 4 and went to get a cup of coffee. What I came back to was strange if not laughable.
On TV was professional bean bag tossing (or Cornhole). There was singles and doubles matches. The players wore shirts showing Johnsonville and Bud Lite as sponsors. Apparently this was the second event to be held but totally new to me.
With all the paid advertisements on TV it was a tossup whether to change the channel or continue to watch these athletes show their skill. I can only wonder what else is around the corner to entertain me.

Whenever my northern friends, co-workers, in-laws, acquaintances, etc.(pretty much everyone else in Florida) mention cornholing, I have to suppress a laugh. When I was growing up down here, cornhole had a completely different connotation.

Yep. I think of a Frank Zappa song.
The 1st time I saw "Cornhole Tournament" listed on the DirecTV menu I was like WTH?
Then I realized that is what they call what I know as beanbag.
NOT the other thing LOL.

I was watching the 1st National Championships Pairs) a couple weeks ago. I could not believe the commentators could do the play by play without breaking out in laughter!
When my Youngest son was in college, he lived with his grandma and an uncle. The uncle's comment was, "Josh is absolutely unbeatable at either Cornhole or Frisbee Golf! If I was 22 and played silly games for 7 hours a day, I could turn Pro!" Now 11 years later it could happen! But I don't think he could support a family on the prize money!

I was recovering from back surgery earlier this year and came across a corn hole contest on TV.
Even doped up on OxyCodone I could not get past the boredom.
The play by play (toss by toss?) was ridiculous.

This corn hole thing reminds me of when my buddies talk about their man cave. 2 things that sound like something you only talk about with your proctologist....

My boy and his friends play a lot of cornhole in the back yard on Sunday afternoons. They started during the virus lockdown. Before that for many years they played Friz Bottle, throwing frisbees to try and knock a beer bottle off a PVC pipe. Before that, they played croquet.
Friz Bottle Was the only one of those games where the rules required you to play with a beer in your hand. With the other two, it just seemed to happen.

No doubt somebody had this stuff in mind when they named the game. Beer might have had something to do with it.

I believe the 7 or 8 time National champion lives here in Kentucky. He practices by blindly throwing them over his garage roof. Now that takes skill!

It did in Ohio also, and was by no means a complimentary term.

It's hard to read these posts without a grin or laugh, certainly not because of the game itself, but because of the long-time accepted definition that made no inference to an innocent game but rather an indecent game and "game" is very loosely used in that respect.

When I was first introduced to this game, a friend was having a college football watching party that lasted from noon to midnight. It was in October and the weather was terrific. There was a lot of adult beverages and good food had by all. During breaks or halftimes, we would congregate outside, where there was good ole time Rock & Roll and Country music playing. He had 2 sets of Cornhole boards and a couple of dart boards set up. A great time was had by all. This was about 7-8 years ago.
A couple of years later, my stepfather who turned 88 last week, was recovering from a broken collarbone and I was recovering from cancer surgery. He was not interested in doing the physical therapy he was supposed to do. Back in the day, he was a very good horseshoe player. While he could not throw a heavy horseshoe, I thought he might enjoy Cornhole, and it might give him the some needed therapy. I got a pair of boards and he have it a try. He was hooked from the first throw. He couldn't throw the regulation distance, but that didn't matter. We started close and went further out as he could. His competitive spirit kicked in and he hated to lose! He bought his own set of boards and would practice when he could. After a while, he would invite me over for a few games. He kicked my tail quite regularly, and loved every minute of it! Now, his balance is not good enough to play anymore. He actually misses the competition. Now we play cards.....****mmy and crazy eights.
I gave my set of boards to my niece for a wedding present since she is young and has a lot of friends over for parties and football viewing. So.....the games continue. As stated above, to me, it is horseshoes for sissies......or old folks. Try it you may like it, after a few beers or stronger adult beverages. This picture is from about two and a half years ago.
Larry
BTW - I think this "game" being on TV, and played for big money is nuts!!

Say WHAT??? I had to jump on this quick before lock or ax. I did get both the other connotations mentioned above but I never heard about the beanbag thing until now.
I see how this one has lasted but I gotta wonder how anyone thought that this would be a good name for a beanbag game!?!?
Handejector had some excellent advice abvove. I'd take that very serious if I was you.

The game was supposedly invented on the west side of Cincinnati.
The governing body, The American Cornhole Association, is located here.
I am so proud.

the bags are or were filled with corn kernels, thus the name of the game, "Cornhole"....... You just have to take it seriously!!!!!!
