Even though it's out of state it's only 35 miles away so I went down to the gun show that is being held this weekend at the Frederick Fairgrounds. I hadn't been down since before the pandemic so I decided that today I would go down.

I didn't see much in the way of the vintage guns that usually interest me. I don't think I saw a Luger in the place. Wood stocked guns appeared to be relatively scarce.

But I did find something that I am hoping fills a current need. My old black wooden pistol box that I bought 30+ years ago seems to have put on a little weight, and with my locomotion/balance issues others at the club .22 league have worried about me and started carrying my box for me. I appreciate their doing it, but it doesn't help if I'm at the range by myself. It turned out there was a gentleman at the gun show with a large and varied inventory of soft range bags, and I found a large one that I think will resolve my problem. So I think now that the big old black box will be the mobile storage box to ride in the car trunk and the new tan range bag will be the container to carry to the firing line with whatever I need immediately to shoot a particular match. So all in all it looks like it was a worthwhile trip.

Hey Golddollar, I attended that same show a few years back and was rather disappointed. There wasn't much inventory and the prices were outrageous. I do; however, like the Christmas craft show there.

I use a folding luggage cart that I got from K-Mart to haul my Pachmayr Pistol Case out. For bigger stuff (rifles), I carry a modified Sand Cart in th back of the truck. It will carry about 200 pounds if needed.

Golddollar, your post reminded me of a similar situation at our shotgun club. One of our members has similar issues. This summer his grandson has been driving him to the club and he is really proactive in helping his grandpa with getting the guns, shells, vests, etc., into the clubhouse and getting the guns put together. (He shoots too, of course.) It's great to see. Seems like a very fine young man and seeing it helps to reinforce my faith in young people.

Years ago I started using a soft range bag from Midway, which is about perfect for me. (I usually carry two guns and two boxes of cartridges for each, a couple of spare magazines, and a few small tools and lubes.) In addition, I started looking at the stuff I was carrying that I didn't really need and leaving quite a bit at home. I'm very happy with the Midway bag, except where it's made.

Thanks for relating your experience. It sounds like I came to the right conclusion as to what I need to do.

Hard to tell. I saw tables full of paper targets set up but I don't remember seeing any rolls of orange target pasters.

Yeah, he was no youngster and I havent seen him the last couple times I went. Too bad.:(

That is the case with many of the older sellers at the gun shows. The quit coming to the shows, either due to age & infirmities, or just tired of the work involved or heaven forbid.....death. Miss some of them.
