Default Buy Stamps

According to a friend in WY the price of a 1/C stamp is increasing from
$.55 to $.58 on Thursday.
We got a heads up from a friend in WY who is a postal clerk.
I didn't see any info at the PO in the last few weeks about the increase, or read it anywhere...kind of sneaky.
Just thought that I would let everybody know to stock up tomorrow.

Looks like it's scheduled for August 29, not this week. Oddly enough -- or maybe not -- I didn't see anything about it on the USPS's official website, but others have plenty of information available.

You can actually get pretty good deals on E bay from people that bought forever stamps and sat on them. I buy mine there and I’m retired from the Post Office.

I may be in the minority but i think $ .58 to take my correspondence anywhere in the USA seems like a good price to me. might buy a book of stamps every other month. when i think about it and the enormous amount of hauling and handling that is involved for every piece of mail that they bring to your home or at least to your local POBox for,$0.58. i'm thinking that a lot going on for .58 cents.

i'm 63 years old and all that time only had a problem with one package that was sent to me.

At the rate they've been jacking the fee for my PO Box over the last few years I figured they were going to make stamps free for everyone else...

Stamps. How quaint. Especially the thought that anyone is still using so many that the price of one is worth mentioning

They’ll probably go the way of the pay phone at some point.

One of the people in the office building just bought $900 worth of stamps. He knew the price was going up - and they do say "Forever" on them.

Two price rises ago I bought a bunch of the 100 stamp rolls and I still have a couple rolls of those rolls left. I think I have enough so some will probably be pass to out in my will!

Dear old Mom still corresponds the old fashioned way although her mailing list gets shorter every year.
Despite some thinking letters are quaint or old fashioned she enjoys the effort taken to compose one's thoughts into a coherent form of communication and is delighted to receive the same in return.
Too bad the art of composition is fast disappearing, I myself am as guilty as anyone.
Have to try to remember to grab her some to keep her stocked.

I don’t use a stamp a month and I have 15-20 Forever Stamps.
I think the last time I used one I sent a Check to the local Food Bank.

My stamp usage has gone down about 90% since USPS couldn't get my credit card payment from Gettysburg to St. Louis in two weeks, and I had to wire funds to get my bill paid on time. That was before all the problems with the Post Office during the pandemic. With rare exception, all my bills now get paid directly from my bank accounts through my computer. I guess I'm no longer a total Luddite.

Thanks for posting this Thom! I'll get some tomorrow.

Some of the replies here simply amaze me. Pretty snobbish, some of them anyways.

For crying out loud guys, if a topic doesn't apply to you, well, there are other topics.

Thank you. I coincidentally was in the post office at 4:45 and bought two sheets of 24 Moonlanding stamps. I was only charged for one and I’m sure the guy knew it but I think he was too lazy to ring up the second one when he realized it.

I don't use many these days even at the office. Years ago we had a postal machine we sent out so much mail. These days we send very little and don't have any use for a machine or even many stamps. Even fax machines are about done as email has taken over. We even send forms for signatures email for electronic signatures these days. When I need to ship a box I just go to the post office most times and have the clerk ring it up and ship it.

At one time Amazon and Ebay had a roll of forever stamps for $9(2017,2018 flag stamps). I'd bet there the ones showing back up for $40-$45 somebody is making a killing, besides the Chinese forgers.

On a related note our local post office is hiring they have signs up in the yard and I just got a flyer in the mail today. My local carrier is very happy to work there And recommends it.
She just showed up at my residence in a brand new Mercedes mail truck. It has been stripped of all badges other than the emblems on the hubcaps which are black on black, and the steering wheel.
I don’t think the post office wants us to know what they are. We have a small post office and she said they only got two so far. They are air-conditioned for a change.

I ordered a bunch from the USPS site yesterday. I buy so many in a year that the Postal Service has me pegged as a collector and send me catalogs.

Unlike many of you, I go through at least a book (20) every month because I do very few automatic payments. All my not-dropped-in-the-offering-plate charitable contributions, credit card payments, and most utilities are paid by check and mailed every month.

I will admit I was a little upset that the Bugs Bunny stamps were already gone. I bought several sheets earlier this year, but they're no longer available.
