Joe Pickett
For those of you with Spectrum Cable TV, check out the Spectrum Original Series, Joe Pickett. It is a 10 part series made up of about hour long shows. It apparently came out last year, but I just heard about it last week. I watched the trailer and thought it might be interesting.
It is about a game warden named Joe Pickett. Pickett is the main character, but has a nice family that makes for interesting characters. The fictional character is based on a real character from Cody. ... Such is the life of Joe Pickett, the game warden and central character in a series of best selling books written by Wyoming author C.J. Box.
I watched the first 2 episodes on Monday night, 2 more on Tuesday, and then binged watched the final 6 tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would give it an 8.5 out of 10. BTW, it takes place in Wyoming and includes some S&W revolvers, as well as, lever action rifles. I won't give out any spoilers. Check it out!

I've read some of the books. C.J. Box. Pretty good read, as I recall.

Interesting. I‘ve enjoyed most of the Pickett books.
C. J. Box has apparently been busy selling rights to screen adaptations. Sometime last year I watched several episodes of a show, don‘t remember the channel, called “Big Sky”, based on his non-Pickett novel “The Highway”. Not bad, but that is Box’s darkest book, and the story had been too sanitized for TV.

Yeah, when I saw the previews for the "Big Sky" series, I thought it might have promise. I watched the first 2-3 episodes and that was all I could take. Very disappointing to me.

Stumbled on Pickett a couple of months ago and really liked it. Ended up binge-watching the whole series in a week’s time.
The series is really pretty well done, with interesting characters, plot, and direction. I really like movies and shows with beautiful settings/backdrops, and this series had that, too.

Never heard of it, but it sounds like a good show.
If it ever streams on a channel I get, I’ll watch it!

I watched all episodes. I'd give it a solid 8 out of 10.

Box is a great writer! Good stories with good characters. I hope I can find it on Amazon or Netflix!

I enjoyed the books but have never heard of Spectrum Cable TV. Maybe TV Land will pick it up in a few years.

C. J. Box at one time came to the gym where I also worked out. For an accomplished writer, he is just folks. Very humble, quiet, and expects no special consideration. I have read all his books.
A friend of mine, also a published author, asked me if I knew C. J. I replied, "Know him? Hell, I've seen him naked!"
I hope his TV series is a success as I think he deserves it more than the author of the Longmire series which grossly misrepresents Wyoming.

Just heard about it a week or so ago on a Paramount / Paramount Plus teaser. Apparently Paramount will be airing it soon if they haven’t already started to. I’m a Spectrum customer and have, in the meantime, gotten 3 episodes in. Seems to get a little better each one.
I’ve read the first of the novels but now want to revisit the book series.

Can Joe Pickett actually shoot in the show?
One of the annoying things in the book series (besides his mother-in-law) is this shtick he’s got going about not being able to hit anything with a handgun, so he carries a shotgun when needed.

I read that book and it soured me on him for quite a while. To dig 14' unnoticed holes in a valley with 16"-30" boulders, bury a truck and have it all unnoticed over night is a stretch Marvel Comics doesn't extend to. Did he really think no one would notice the lights and noise over a road that averages more than a car a minute all hours of the day? I don't know if he checked out Livingston or just saw where it was on the map but was really disappointed.

The star, Michael Dorman, stars in another Netflix series called "The Patriot."
If you enjoy watching him you may also like him in "Patriot." It went two seasons.
It's a dark and quirky comic/drama about a troubled CIA agent.
Funny, but very dark humor at times.

Joe Pickett
I read and enjoy the books, BUT the inability to use a handgun is ridiculous. Not carrying a handgun in his job could cost him his life. Of course he does have a buddy who is a killer to help him out when the poachers get rough.

What a great show. My son is also a fan and I just got this shirt to give him at Christmas.

Box is a great story teller. Not sure I've read all the Pickett books but I have read several. Page-turners all. I'll be on the look out for the series.

Joe Pickett was a pretty good show. Big Sky, now in its third season, is also decent, but you may have to overlook the plethora of "politically correct" characters.

I watched seasons one and two this month. What an idiot...more like Joe Dirt with a gun and a badge and some Barney Fife with a death wish mixed in. I'm glad there won't be a season three because it's too painful to watch.

Joe Pickett is a decent show; episodes are worth watching once. Much better than "Big Sky". When it seemed Big Sky couldn't get much worse they brought in Reba McIntire to make it sink faster.

Just saw the last episode of season 2. They are mixing and matching the storylines of the books, but keeping it entertaining. They set themselves up at the end of this episode for season 3. It will be interesting to see how it shapes up.

I kind of like the books. I have seen none of the movies.
I have a little trouble understanding why a game warden couldn't learn to shoot a handgun. It's not all THAT hard to learn if you already know how to make a rifle work. However, we're not all exactly the same. The mother-in-law is also kind of out there, but I suppose that once in a while, stranger things have happened.

Haven't read the books so don't have preconceived notions that color my enjoyment of the show. The only thing that I have found a minor irritation is how they constantly have him checking the condition of his magnum to ensure it's loaded . . . as if those who carry every day (especially in the line of duty) don't ALWAYS know the condition of their carry piece.
The script writing is a bit tortured at times but I like the show for the most part.

I read today that the series is canceled after s2. C.J.Box, the books author, apparently thinks that's the TV producers and writers strayed way too far from the plots and characters of the books.

In the books, his buddy is Nate, a falconer, and his handgun of choice is a Freedom Arms 454 Casull. He shoots it very well. In later books, the revolver is the new FA 500 Wyoming.
Nate is usually wanted by at least one law enforcement agency, and lives "off the grid, way off".

Just got done binge watching season's one and two. I thought considering the absolute trash now being produced for our viewing enjoyment that Joes story was a 7.5 out of 10. Last episode of season two was disappointing. I thought more evil doers should die.

I don’t think I have ever watched a series like Joe Pickett where at the end of each episode I think to myself, I sure hope the next episode is better. Well it don’t happen. The episodes don’t show any improvement. The lack of respect for Game Warden’s and all Law Enforcement involved is a joke, and Joe Pickett’s demon’s from his childhood is a sidetrack and not very convincing. Too many crooked people in the mix. I will watch the last episode of season 2 but probably will end it there. Joe Pickett is a wuss.
So there, I’ve said it, after all these weeks. I feel better.

Good for Mr. Box. I felt that way last season and hoped season 2 was a major correction. But, alas, it was not to be. Hope someone else picks it up as it could be a great series. Maybe Box will talk to Lee Childs about how to do it.

I don't have tv, but I read. I've met Chuck several times around the state. He's a terrific writer, and based on what seems to be the consensus here I'm happy he stopped Hollywood from further ruining his stories.

Glad to hear he pulled the plug, the series was ok-not the worst thing on the idiot box though not the best either, I must say the actress that played Marybeth sure is easy on the eyes lol. I just finished "Storm Watch" this past weekend, enjoyed the book, a very fast read. C.J. volunteers every year at Cheyenne Frontier Days, missed getting up there this year, usually he's at a rodeo chute.

Watched 1st 3 episodes of season 1, a bit corny but an entertaining "whodunit." Nice country up in Canada (I guess saving 1/3 the cost) and the characters fit. Sorry, nobody brings a .22 to a gunfight. Joe
