Joe Pickett series

In the books he is carrying a Glock, and can't hit anything with it.

That's true he carries a Glock, but he doesn't blame the Glock. He makes it pretty clear he's a poor shot with handguns in general.

The Nate Romanowski character in the books uses a Freedom Arms .454 Casul. And has a scope on it too. I want to say in the later books, he switched to a .500 Linebaugh caliber, but I could be wrong on that? Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.

As I recall in the book, he gets his .454 confiscated and he reaches out to his gun buddy to get a replacement. His buddy couldn't lay his hands on a .454 but brings him a similar Freedom Arms but in .500 Linebaugh instead. Towards the end of the book he gets his .454 back and ends up using both of them in the final confrontation.

In following books Nate reverts back to his .454 Casul and I don't recall the .500 being mentioned again.

Anyone else watching/watched this? I’m a little late to the party. Just found out about it last week. My wife and I are 4 episodes in. I love the authenticity of the guns. Game wardens are carrying S&Ws and Falconer guy Carrie’s a Freedom arms. Which is pretty impressive for a guy that looks homeless lol. I think Picketts .22 is and old Remington Scoremaster bolt action. I have the semi auto version. The only two snafus I’ve noticed is, he got the rifle as a child. It was in the original box so I’m assuming it was new. Pickett appears to be 35-45 yrs old. The dates don’t really line up. Also in one seen he appeared to have a left handed bolt action of some sort. But maybe it was a “camera thing” . Anyways so far so good. We like it.

Oyes...in one episode, he unzipped the case, and there was a left-handed bolt on the rifle. All other scenes, it was right-hander.

YUP! Joe always said in the novels that he couldn't hit much with his issue handgun, probably why he favored the 12 gauge shotgun, and iirc, later an AR 15. One thing I noticed in the TV series, Nate Romanowski shot a guy with his revolver, and the dude got right back up! If he had a plate that would stop a .454, I think he would have just laid there a while, thinking; "Mother told me there'd be days like this!"

I doubt the TV series can even get close to doing justice to the story line.

I've read the entire series, and I'm looking forward to the next book, Battle Mountain, due out in 2025.

It is best to start with book one and enjoy your way through the story as Box builds the characters and story elements. You miss too much by skipping story steps, which is the problem with the TV series.

Agree! But the series did a reasonable rework...they changed enough of the facts to keep it interesting! BATTLE MOUNTAIN is a good one! I stayed up to the weeeee hours to finish it. The wife reads slower, and she's still reading. I've noticed that the Pickett novels are getting a bit formula driven lately, but...if it ain't broke... I keep rooting for Nate.
