My little brother sent me my father's old fountain pen that wound up with him. When I opened it up I discovered to my surprise a brand new unfilled Montblanc 149. Had been using a 146 for years but I gotta tell ya, the 149 absolutely kicks it up a notch!
Did some research on it and found out that there is as much stuff on Montblanc on the internet as there is about S&W. Based on the nib and the ebonite feed it is 1969-72 vintage. Well, I ruined any collector value as I immediately inked it up and it is my new daily writer.
Anyone else has one they use??

Oh my, that reminds me that I used to care about the brand of my pen . . . . . and watch, and cell phone, and suits, and ties, and and and. . .

I am much happier not having to keep up with anyone any more. After I retired, I found that Walmart had packages of a dozen pens for $5.00. 14 years later, there are still a couple left in the package. They work and they last, what more can you ask for.:D

I have a couple of Mont Blanc pens. My favorite (because it was free) is a ball point that was in a small Post Office pen jar at the window. Remarked to the clerk it was a nice pen and she said “take it if you want”.

While I can appreciate the quality of a fine writing instrument I don't deserve one. My handwriting is horrid. I so wanted to have beautiful penmanship but it was not meant to be.

Using such a pen for block printing seems like using Waterford to drink Kool-Aid.

Despite twelve years of Catholic schooling, my handwriting is terrible...and only getting worse as I age. My printing is actually pretty good, thank heavens! :)

If you put Jamison's in the kool-aid that's perfectly acceptable.

I’ve never owned a Mount Blanc or a Rolex, but I’ve had “nice” watches and pens. They’re all in a drawer. Now I write with a roller ball gel something or other and wear a $40 Timex. If I lose or destroy either one, no big deal. Less stress is good! :D I’m happy you’re enjoying your Dad’s pen. I have my Dad’s wrist watch his mother gave him when he went off to Purdue, but I never wear it. Maybe I should…

I still take meeting notes with pen and pad and enjoy a nice Waterman rollerball - Mont Blanc is certainly a storied writing instrument....

I don't remember the brand or name but I purchased a nice pen after graduating law school and passing the bar. Within 30 days someone stole it during a deposition. BIC pens ever since.

In the late eighties or maybe early '90s, I purchased a Mont Blanc fountain pen at JFK on a business trip. Think I paid maybe $225 or so. I used it intermittently for a year or so, and then gave it to a young intern in my office when he left us, having been accepted at Harvard Business School.

I admonished him to work hard, as I knew he would, and suggested he sign his first big contract with it.

I never heard from him again, but I have occasionally looked him up on the internet. He's done very well. CEO of a good sized company he created, makes a lotta bucks, but also, more importantly, is involved in various good works.

I hope he still has the pen, but, if he doesn't, that's okay, too.

I have a MB 146 as well, but my EDC is a Mont Blanc ball point given to me as a gift for being the commencement speaker at a small school district at which a dear friend was Superintendent. It has a lot of sentimental value, but I use it every day in remembrance of a precious friendship.

My experience with fountain pens is that they are wonderful to look at, delightful to hold, but a hassle to maintain when used for every day writing tasks. Several ink stains on shirts also reminded me why the ball point won out.

I don’t use a montblanc, I use older fountain pens. This week it’s a Parker Duofold Sr from about 1929.
