Over the past couple years there seem to be questions about generators, etc. I stumbled upon this website that auctions off US Military equipment. Lots of generators, many mounted on trailers, and a big variety of KW ratings. Some of you past & present US Service members are probably familiar with them; reliability, etc.
Just an FYI in case anyone's interested. Also, there were vehicles like Humvees, etc. All had the numerical military designations like everything else military-related.
If anyone knows if this is a bogus site, please say so. We don't like being ripped off!

There is a lot of military surplus out there, but the shipping from Afghanistan is really expensive.

Apparently so much so it is cheaper just to give it away to the locals.

The problem with buying mil-surp equipment is that its built specifically for the military to their specs, needs and to fit their maintenance system. You just can't run down to the local parts store to get anything you need.
Make sure spare parts are available and understand that it could take weeks or even months to get them.

Some really ugly reviews out there, but the most interesting dings come from GovPlanet's alleged failure to submit to the Yankee Gov't the release request necessary to title or otherwise take possession of the property . . .

I've got a 4KW Powermate (by Coleman) with a 8HP Briggs & Stratton. Service and parts are available locally.

In the 80's I had an employee that had been a generator operator in the Army. His description was, "Run around only when it was night and raining and refuel the generator!" They would have cost 1/10 as much if bought at a Home Center. The oil never got changed in 3 tears! And was often dropped from a truck!

I've seen the Dodge pick-ups and Hummers that had built in generators. Without the truck, nearly impossible to apply to household or construction site use!

I'll pass!

Ivan
