Gas or Electric??
I'm talking about the stove in your kitchen.
Latest news shows the Government wants to get rid of your gas stove due to long term toxicity. Surveys show that roughly 40% of homes have gas stoves.
IMHO stovetop cooking with electric really sucks. Gas offers a more constant heat and works better when cooking with large pots. I think very few people consider the difference when buying a house or upgrading appliances.
If the Government gets away with this then what's next? Will it be your gas furnace or water heater? It's getting worse but historically natural gas has always been cheaper than electricity in Colorado.

I have never lived anywhere with a gas stove, sadly. Looks like they think we can't be trusted with such things. Kinda like guns.

Here is something a little different to consider. We have a emergency Propane whole house generator.
Did a lot of checking and figure out we would be better on a gas (Propane) stove in a long term generator run time. We have gone on generator a lot and one time was about 4 days (big ice storm)
We can light any burner/oven by a barbecue igniter and have much less of a load on the generator for cooking meals. The generator does not need to make as much power and thusly runs under less load and makes the Propane last longer. Add to that our supplier is very good, your results might be different.

I’ve always had electric stoves, but the times I’ve used gas at friends houses I’ve really liked it.Especially the $6000 English stove Tamar had. I liked her,but I loved her house!

Never lived in a house with gas so it’s hard to comment. When we had our home we recently moved in to remodeled we had an induction cooktop installed. It’s awesome…heats super fast. The only downside is it somewhat limits the cookware that can be used on it…only something magnetic will work. My favorite fry pan has a copper bottom and won’t work with it. Once our new outdoor grill is installed I can use it there.

I grew up with gas and thought it was OK. My mother would not have electric.
My wife would not have gas. Guess what we put in our new house? Truthfully, now that I've had both I like the electric better.
We also have a propane all-house generator. I elected to NOT have the 220 stove hooked up to the emergency system, because it saved the cost of 2 extra circuits. We have a microwave and a toaster oven so cooking in a storm is not a problem.
The BIG PROBLEM will come when gas furnaces and hot water tanks are outlawed. My house has lots of gas lines, but no more electrical circuits.

Will the gas stove police also have authority to take your guns ??? Probably the same people that want bags attached to the rear end of livestock. It just gets funnier and funnier, and more and more ridiculous. I have both a gas stove and guns. Now all I need is a cow.

Propane gas stove and water heaters. Gas stoves are far superior IMHO. Gas gives instant heat and with a little practice you can tell exactly how hot by the flame.
Their reasons for wanting to get rid of gas have nothing to do with toxicity. It's just another attempt to kill the fossil fuel industry.
With no electricity I still have hot water and stove. I can get away with a smaller generator. I've been without power for 3 weeks after a hurricane and 2 weeks multiple times. A small generator burns way less fuel than the bigger one that would be needed for an all electric house.

Induction cooktops (AKA hob, for my English readers) work well, and electric fan ovens have been the weapon of choice for decades. That said, outlawing gas stoves in a country which has so many issues with the electrical supply when the weather goes bad is ludicrous.
Back in the UK they are looking to ban the sales of gas heating devices. So what happens in a 25-30 year old house and the gas boiler dies that heats radiators and the water? The electric alternatives don't hook up to a water radiator system as far as I know, so...??? If I hadn't already moved out of the UK, I'd be planning to.

First thing we've done in every house we've lived in is install a gas line and gas range. In our current home, I even went a step further and did a restaurant-grade exhaust hood.
I spent 12 years in the culinary field. I simply cannot cook properly on electric.

This "study" is simply a backdoor attempt to get rid of fossil fuels. The last time we bought a gas range, we found out many had electronic control and would not operate without power. Even though we have a generator, we wanted one to operate even without power. Had to look for awhile to find a heavy duty model that would.

I've never owned a gas stove, and the few times I've used one, I did not like it. Don't even like a gas grill (Sorry, Hank). I like old-style electric burners, despise the glass tops.
All of this gas stove ban will blow up on the government if it tries to push it through.

As a practical matter, I doubt this will fly and it likely would take decades to be effective. Always had electric, and comfortable with it (as is my wife, which is what really matters), so I am not up to speed on gas stoves.
Propane? NFE. It is one of the things that keeps me away from getting an RV. Seen too many fires/explosions.

Gas is the best way to heat your stove.
Being able to adjust the heat instantly, instead of waiting for your electric stove to heat or cool means everything to easy cooking.

I prefer a gas range. The wife won't allow gas in the house.
We have an electric range.

We've had a natural gas stove, dryer and hot water heater in our house for 30 years. They're less expensive to operate than electric and do a much better job. I'd rather fight than switch!
As an added bonus, the stove top and water heater still works during power outages. If they hadn't done away with pilot lights, the oven would work too.

After we were married our first two homes used nature gas. We loved it.
Our third home was all electric. We were in it for ten years. The cook top and oven were inconsistent and at times aggravating. Heat pumps suck out loud.
The home we are presently in is fed with natural gas. The day we moved in Ruthie went up to the stove, stared at it and said: "I've missed you".
Returning to electric cooking would deprive us of "the pursuit of happiness".

I have used both and currently(last 23 years) use a gas stove. Never had a problem other than my wife thinks it takes too long to heat up. She never hit the start button again after setting the temp and that is why it takes to long. Other than that, she likes it and doesn't want electric. Unfortunately, anything I saw will probably get me banned. Sooooooooo

When the WH converts their kitchens to all electric I might maybe consider it, not. Nothing but government control. If they get rid of gas for heating, cooking and electricity, it will be the death of the US and a lot of people. Renewables are not good enough or ready. The elites will have everything. Why is a carton of eggs a luxury? Go figure.

Not that it matters anymore, but it was a LOT easier to light your cigarette from a gas stove open flame than turn on an electrical cooktop and wait for the element to heat up. Also gas flame will do a quicker and better job of putting a burn on a couple of charcoal briquets to start your pit if'n you run out of lighter fluid

In Oklahoma you can almost drill in the ground anywhere and hit natural gas and it is pretty cheap. Virtually every home has a gas stove and HW tank except for areas in the country with no gas service or rentals because the people might blow themselves up. I'm far from being a great cook and and it doesn't matter to me with gas or electric cooking but the electric stoves with glass tops always look dirty and scratched up from the steel skillets and pots moving on the glass.

'Round these parts it's "Now we're cookin' with peanut oil . . ."
All good cooking is done on gas, because the heat is constant and consistent. Sadly, living in a city with its own power plant, about 80% of the homes are all electric . . .

Yea just try and use a wok on an electric range, or toast up some garlic over the open flame. In addition to all the other advantages already mentioned. Am looking for a new house, and most without gas are quickly passed by. Especially if they have somthin called a heat pump.

Been cooking/baking with an electric stove for 44 years-came with the apartment. Before that, gas, can't say I've noted any difference.
My mother told me she and my grandmother moved into the first house I remember in 1940 or so, had a nice electric stove, my grandmother insisted on getting a gas one. Then the war came and...my mother said lots of blackouts, but they always had the stove.

I read those articles, too, about gas stove tops causing pollution so maybe they should be banned. One of the articles, fine print, said the issue was more about leaking valves/connections than burning gas.
I don't like electric stove tops. Too hard to control the heat, and takes too long to get up to temp. Maybe okay for a soup you want to simmer for a couple of hours, but for an omelette or a steak, forget it.
We bought a condo, more of a townhouse, in town in 2016 with nothing but electric available. No hook up for gas. Getting a permit for hook up, and HOA agreement, was iffy. So we installed a nice, new Bosch glass cooktop... which we very rarely used.
Our solution was to get a 15KW Iwatani butane burner. Bought butane by the case from Amazon. Cost us maybe ~ $25 a month or so, but it worked great. Used it daily. Also easy to move out to the patio for a steak or fish without smoking/smelling up the house.
Sold that place and bought a house with gas in the 'burbs in 2020. Love the gas range. Just upgraded it. Still use the Iwatani on the patio or in the garage when it's raining.

Once our new outdoor grill is installed I can use it there.

Thanks for the report. I've read about induction, and considered it for my townhouse, but have never known anyone with one. Sounds pretty good. That sounds like a good solution if stuck with electric only.
(Re your favorite pan, try that Iwatani butane burner. I think now about $100, but they are much better than cheaper versions. More heat and better build quality. 15KW is more than most stove top burners, which are typically 12KW and less. Tho my new stove top has an 18KW burner.)

But how would that all work? With no gasoline, natural gas or propane your small generator would have no fuel to run.
I guess you would have to hook your generator up to a stationary bicycle with a leather belt and peddle like the dickens.
But wait!!!, no more cows, no more leather.

If you enjoy cooking in general and creative cooking, gas is the only way to go. Otherwise, or if you seldom cook, electric is fine.

On occasion we will let JR make S'mores using the gas stove. Try doing that with a coil.

At this point, no actual plans exist to
limit or curtail the use of gas stoves
by the government.
The comments by the safety commission
pertained to possible health effects
in the use of gas stoves.
One commissioner said all options are
on the table when considering safety
and health and that would include the
use of gas stoves. That position can
apply to just about any product.
Again, a much-ado-about-nothing issue.
Now, what about the plan to outlaw Argyle
socks bedause they hurt some folks eyes?
