This is why you don’t put 2A friendly and gun decals on your vehicle!

Come and get it if you're feeling lucky, PUNK! I fly Old Glory in front of my house too. Is that an indication I might be armed to the teeth, and have actually been shot at and have killed in the past? Could be. I'll let the criminals try to figure it out. I'm too old to be worrying what other people think, so I don't.

You can find antidotal evidence of criminals breaking into homes and vehicles that show signs of the presence of weapons. BTW, I have a sign by my front door that reads "There will be no warning shot. Ammo is expensive." Well, do you feel lucky?

It shouldn't take a "rocket scientist" to figure out that thieves target people who "advertise" that they do or probably do own guns! This is exactly the advice I have given people for the past 40 years, since I was first hired as a LEO!

The same goes for anyone that posts burglar alarm signs on their house!!! Don't you suppose that might be a sign to a thief that that person has valuable property that they are afraid of being stolen? You have less chance of being victimized if you don't advertise that you may have what the thief wants!:eek::eek:

I know a guy who has his car broken in to twice in two weeks, with a gun stolen both times. When I pointed out to him that his "Protected by S&W" sticker might have been a factor, he got mad and said, "So, you and those idiot cops think alike, huh?!!?

Yep...

Interesting point of view.

My take is that most thieves, seeing the burglar alarm sign and external cameras, will think, "I'll pick a house that looks like less trouble."

I think, were I a thief, I would speculate that people who live in nice neighborhoods in nice houses probably have valuable stuff.

I do agree with not advertising gun ownership

Several years ago many vehicles were broken into because they were simply parked at a gun show. Quite a few guns were stolen.

The gun show advertisements specifically state that concealed guns are not permitted. So people left them in their car.

I have only had one gun go missing, a Sig P320 .45.

Maybe a friend took it from me because it wasn't a S&W.?

I have said before that there is nothing adorning my home, vehicle or apparel that denotes my military service, gun ownership or political affiliation.

Stay gray.

The only thing I have is a rear license plate frame that says “US Navy Veteran” and a bumper sticker “Proud Father of a Naval Officer.”

I never really thought about that being a red flag, but I suppose it could be. At least it’s less obtrusive than the Glock fanboy and Tacticool stickers.

That’s pretty funny…Here’s your sign:)

When I have to leave a gun in a car safe, I disable it and take a necessary component and usually the ammo with me.

I would wager that for 90%+ of thieves that is the major factor. In England we were told that a basic crime prevention measure was a solid looking front door that had a visible extra mortise lock. That was enough to most miscreants to move on. If you had hefty looking double glazed windows, that was a bonus.

Mine was broken into a few months ago at a trailhead. Jackets and boots were untouched. I’m guessing they’re after purses, wallets and guns. That was my 4th vehicle break in over 20 yrs. Not a good place to leave a gun ,ever.Oops, ,that was #5. The first time nothing was stolen🙄edit of the edit:it’s 7!!

After 26 years in the US it still frosts my chops that I am required to carry a copy of the registration and insurance in the car, both showing my home address. That doesn't fit with my version of PERSEC.:( A car is not a secure place for personal information.

Trailheads and greenway bike/walk paths are fertile ground for thieves. They watch from nearby and know you will be gone for awhile.
