(I posted this in the Long Guns forum, but there's a lot more traffic here. )
What kind of scattergun are you guys sportin' these days for HD?
No tacticool at my house.....just basic, no frills pumpers that hold lots of shells.

A 12ga double with hammers and 20 inch bbls.
An assortment of 00 buck shotshells and slugs are in an old military pouch hooked to the sling.
Nothin' fancy and easy to use.

I have been trying to locate a Mossberg 590 A-1 (cat. # 51663) for several months. Seems that there are none to be found anywhere. In the meantime, I have had my old Remington 870 Wingmaster nearby for over 35 years.
I have lots of SXS coach guns, but the low round count keeps them in the safe. If I didn't have the 870, one of those bad boys would be made handy though.

A mossberg pump cut down to 18 1/2 in. full of 00 buck lives in the corner by my bed. It sometimes travels with us in our travel trailer too. I had an old retired state cop tell me years ago, if you want to have to shoot someone, pull a pistol on them. If you want to scare somebody off, rack a slide shotgun. Everybody knows what that sound is in any langruage.

Next to the bed is an M&P9c. The Mossberg 500A with a Hogue short stock sits next to the reloading bench in the basement.

Remington 870 youth 20 gauge with 21" barrel, IC choke, and 3" number 3 Buckshot. No magazine extension or tacitcool add-ons because I wanted it to look like a hunting shotgun in case I ever went to court for using it. I have it backed up with a CZ-75 .40, extra mag, Surefire 6P R2 LED, and a Camillius Heat assisted opening knife.

Parkerized, "Old School Tacticool," from 1969 . . . and it still kicks serious butt!
Lefthanded, of course. A short barreled pump that "kills at both ends" . . .

Long guns are no good in my home, but I do have a 7 shot Ithaca Model 37 Deer Slayer Police Special in the safe. Took it to Korea with me. Used it to teach the Korean security guards at Camp Howze how to shoot a shotgun. No disconnector, unlike the M&P model.

There's a Winchester Model 12, cut down to a riot gun and reblued shown with a cut Remington Model 11. The Winchester was made in 1919, the Remington is quite old as well. I also have two generic Mossberg 500s and a Stoeger Coach gun. However, my actual "home defense guns" are those show below.

A garden-variety, 1980s vintage 12 gauge Magnum Remington 870 "Standard Deer Gun," which back then meant a 20" smoothbore barrel with rifle sights that would take 3" shells, and which had a nicely blued barrel and receiver and a nice walnut stock, loaded with low recoil Winchester Ranger 9 pellet OO buck
and
a Remington 20 gauge youth model "Express" (which refers to how quickly they make them) with 21" barrel, barrel and receiver coated with some damn thing or another, and a stained birch stock, loaded with Federal 3" Magnum #2 buck. Yes, #2, not #3.
I'd rather engage bad guys with the nice old 12 gauge. I'd rather the 20 gauge WalMart special spend several years in the evidence room.
But if push comes to shoot, it'll be the 12.

I wish! Shotguns are in the safe. Pistola is beside the bed, though.

no shotguns under the bed, all in the safe. But the coachgun was purchased for HD. just pistola's in the bedside tables. Been thinking of getting the Mossberg 500 JIC, and see you have one. the price seems ok.

Since the burglary attempt, I've had a shotgun next to my side of the bed, tucked away in a corner.
First, I had an old 870 with 20" barrel loaded with Federal premium 2 3/4" #1 magnums. The stock was showing warpage from water soaking but the metal was unpitted.
That piece is now my truck gun, having a 3 shot extension tube, Ram line plastic furniture and Hi Viz front bead put on. It stays loaded with Winchester low recoil 00.
A Mossberg 590A1, complete with sidesaddle, took its place loaded with Winchester 00 milspec buck from Cabela's. Found it at a local shop for $300.00 and couldn't leave without it.

Nothing!!!! as I would not want to offend anyone, or make the present administration upset!
But I once coveted a 500 Mossberg with a 20" barrel, 8 round magazine, and engraved on the side '2nd Chance Combat Shoot 1990' once!
It had a cute little flourescent site thingy added on the barrel.
You people are scaring me with all of these weapons in your arsenals!!! You should be more forgiving, less prepared, and depend upon the government to help you when needed!
WIC out !
