I have a number of custom grips. While for some of them the craftsmen had the guns in hand, and the grips perfectly fit, others were made to fit a specific frame size. And there is variation within specific frame sizes.
To get a better fit I have been using shims made from strips of business cards. I wedge the shims in until the fit is tight. But the downside of this approach is that typically one panel of the grip is tight to the frame, but the other panel, while screwed to the tight fitting panel, is not as tight to the frame, resulting in misalignment of the grip panels in regard to each other. One panel, especially at the back of the grip, tends to be proud.
It occurred to me this morning to try a different approach: Painters tape, that blue stuff that painters use that does not harm the walls. Easy on and off.
Cut the tape in strips the width of the grip frame, and build up the strips on the grip frame, in layers, until you get a tight fit. Works very well.
You're welcome.
