I'm sure as many of you here are into bourbons, what is your opinion on Booker's. I just ordered me a bottle of Booker's, the 23-03 batch called "Mighty Fine Batch". You can't find Booker's locally, so I ended up ordering it online from a company I've ordered from in the past when I was looking for a bottle of John Wayne whiskey for my brother, since he is a big JW fan and it would go with his JW commemorative lever gun.

That stuff is by far the most expensive whiskey I've ever bought. It's cask strength at 122.4 proof and I have a bottle of Knob Creek single barrel select that is 120 proof and a decent whiskey itself to compare it to. I splurged on this to celebrate the fact that my old ball and chain is about to be shed and the worthless witch I was married to will soon be my ex-wife. She moved out while I was at the rig at work with no warning in December; just called my daughter up and told her to take care of the cats and dogs. And my daughter was 8 months pregnant at the time with her first child. That's a whole other story though.

So, what is your opinion on Booker's?

Well Mud I don't know much about bourbon, but I would buy another gun to celebrate

I am a confirmed beer guy. I know little about distilled spirits so I can't help you in that regard but I feel bad that your soon to be ex dropped that floater in your punch bowl especially when it inconvenienced your daughter at such an inopportune time.

Scraping that barnacle off your hull may be a blessing that now affords you smooth sailing.

FWIW, Bookers (in general) is excellent. Lots of products bears Booker Noe’s name, which is part of the Jim Beam family of bourbons. Knob Creek is another of the Beam brands, along with Bakers and Basil Hayden’s, among others.

Booker Noe was the fourth master distiller of the Beam distillery (1965-1992). He is credited for reviving bourbon’s status as a superpremium spirit in the late 1980s with the marketing of small batch, unfiltered bourbons. More about Booker at:

I've had Booker's before and enjoyed it. It was well-balanced and complex. Good stuff. I predict you will also enjoy it. For that matter, I figure even kerosene would be tasty in the circumstances you find yourself. Enjoy, celebrate and don't look back! Well, Muddoctor, I like bourbon. I like just about any bourbon I've ever encountered, so I s'pose I'm not much on offering an aficionado's expert advice.

I like the buzz alcohol gives me. Drink less than I used to, but the docs are always telling me I drink too much. True, Im sure.

Sounds to me like a difficult time in life you're going through. Hey, it happens, with most of us. Believe in yourself. Take care of your daughter. When you're up for it, find another woman.

I generally drink Woodford. Always keep Angel's Envy, Bulleit, and Jeffersons on the bar. Old Grand Dad for mixers, cause it was my first bourbon.

I have had Bookers on a few occasions. I found it a little harsh for my taste. Many enjoy it, so I assume that's just my taste buds.

I've got about half a bottle of their 129 Proof Small Batch in the cupboard, but I've never tried their Mighty Fine Batch". Looks like the Mighty Fine is over $200/bottle.

The Small Batch is OK, but I prefer Rye. You really want to have cask strength on the rocks or with a splash of water. It's brutal straight up!

I drank only Scotch for many years. Johnnie Walker Black label is my favorite. Never liked Bourbon even thought I tried many of the popular ones. Then I tried Old Forester signature brand 100 proof. It has become my favorite sipping whiskey. It has a unique taste and a nice aroma rather than the smell of nasty pond water that most bourbons have. A bit strong in flavor. I drink it at room temperature with a bit of Ice Mountain spring water. As to the taste, it just tastes like whiskey, period.

I have a rather extensive home bar selection primarily consisting of Irish Whiskey, Scotch, and Bourbon. I have Pinkie's Batch, opened at my last Christmas party...very good. All whiskeys are really personal preference, but you can learn to appreciate any fine whiskey, even if it's not your favorite, or preferred, flavor profile. Taste as many as you can, appreciate the "good" ones and drink the ones you like.

This may sound corny, but always drink whiskey from a high quality glass and with friends and/or family... It'll make it taste better...guaranteed.

I enjoy Jim Beam Black the most. I wasn't a big bourbon fan until it was introduced. I've tried higher priced and recommended bourbons but keep coming back to Black.

Booker's is good. A bit of a bite at 122 proof. The brand is the barrel proof-only bourbon made by Jim Beam, always in small batches. I like the Knob Creek as the alternative top shelf from Beam.

Hey Mud Doc. I Don't drink the hard stuff anymore so can't comment. But as far as ex's go when I paid mine off I celebrated and bought a new pickup. Hell, the truck cost less than the ex did.

I just tried Woodford for the first time last week. It's OK, but rather the Knob Creek or Wild Turkey Rare Breed to it.

This one was around $125 for a fifth. I recently tried the KC rye and found I rather the small batch. And I drink it on the rocks, as neat it has a bit of heat from all the alcohol.

I'm looking forward to getting this in and comparing it to the other 2 high proof whiskies I have. And yes, I do drink it out of a high quality glass too.

Yep, Suntory bought into the Beam franchise some years ago. From what I understand, Suntory makes some quality whiskey too.

This Forum makes me want to get into bourbon, or whiskey, whatever, but I just can't get it past my nose to take a snort. Now, having been through 1 bad and 1 sorta bad marriages, living near all the swamps near the end of the Big River, the temptation would've been tough way back then.

Got my first taste of a Booker’s barrel-strength bourbon a couple of years ago. It was 130 proof, had a nice nutty taste, and gave no clue it was that strong. Best bourbon I ever tasted. I subsequently found a bottle of my own and enjoyed it immensely.
I don’t drink much whisky these days, and more rye than bourbon. Beam is a reliable standard, and it comes in the 750cc Flat bottle traveler, which makes it handy for motorcycle trips. But if I ever run across another High-proof Booker’s on the shelf, I will snap it up.

We had a bottle of Suntory Old something or other that was wonderful...cant seem to buy it here. Nephew brought it from Japan.

Knob Creek and Makers are a little sweeter than Woodford to my palate.

I stick to basics, bourbon and beer. I like beer, mostly anything but a AB product when I'm working outside and need a little rehydration. Lounging around in the evenings I prefer a decent bourbon. When I say decent I don't mean high priced or high powered. I can get just as much on reasonably priced bourbon as I can on a high priced not so reasonably priced one, especially after the second drink. Doesn't matter much after that. I can't see spending a lot of money on high priced high proofed stuff when I can get the same enjoyment from something for less. Two of my favorites were 80 proof Rebel Yell and 80 or 90 proof Ezra Brooks. They recently took the "Yell" out of Rebel Yell and are now trying to pass Ezra as something special by adding years and alcohol content. WTH? I liked them like they were. So now I'm amusing myself with Military stuff from the local PX. Prices are better also.

The finest drink in the world is a Booker's Manhattan- straight up. (IMHO)

I guess I need to try me some Booker's. When I was a wee lad I snuck into my daddy's stash. The next day was not too fun. Wasn't able to drink it for the longest time.

Fast forward to the last couple of years, I have mainly been a scotch guy (am I allowed to say guy? I identify as a guy so I guess so). Some of my coworkers have been into bourbon so I dipped my toe back in without negative consequences. I am now branching into Rye Bourbon or is it Bourbon Rye. Anyway, I am loving Templeton Rye. Slowly working my way through a 4 year.
