My wife follows the royal family. She's not retired yet, so I often forward stuff I see to her email so she can look at it when she gets home from work. The UK papers (and a couple of US news sites) are going absolutely nuts about what seems to me to be a trivial, nit-picking affair. I have trouble thinking anything beyond "So What" and "Get a Life", but this affair seems to be a real crisis for our cousins across the pond. The way the journalists in the UK are approaching it, you'd think they think they're Woodward and Bernstein of Watergate fame.

I'd throw down my usual "nothing burger" but in this case I guess it's "nothing banger".

There are tons of speculation on the internet about why an obviously doctored photo (possibly taken well before her abdominal surgery) was released for Mother's Day. The supposition being that Kate looks too bad after surgery to release a current photo, and the photo released is really a coverup of how serious her surgery was. That does not make a great deal of sense because If that was the reason, I am certain the Royal photographer, sworn to secrecy, could have photoshopped an older picture in a professional way so that it could not have been detected. Or, even easier, just not release a Mother's Day picture at all. The Royal PR staff are certainly sharp enough to come up with a plausible reason for not releasing one. So No one has a clue why a badly photoshopped picture would have been released. And that is the reason for the furor.

I have seen a couple of surgeons interviewed on TV regarding their opinions as to what kind of surgery it was. They thought, based on what little information has been released, bladder cancer. But they were not anywhere close to the OR.

If you're concerned about a photo of Kate & Kids, you're really not in touch with reality.

Not sure whether Ivan the Butcher's or ACORN's reaction best expresses mine, but between them they exhaust what I have to say about the subject.

I'm just staggered that none of the alleged professionals in Kensington Palace warned Kate not to mess with the picture. It's well know that she likes photography and if you own a digital camera, you will have some kind of editing software. Seems that she cannot help "improving" her pictures.

The media have actually done a good thing in setting strict rules on the alteration of digital pictures and video. They applied their rules and said no thanks. This is more about who got caught rather than what was done to the picture.

As for the interest in Kate's health and the theories about why she won't release the untouched picture, call someone who cares. Health stuff is private, the world needs to MYOB.

William and Kate need a break. Too much emphasis is being placed on the trivial photoshop stuff and not enough on the real challenges facing the Royals. I' m not wishing anything bad to happen to Charles, but if he can't continue, abdicates or passes away, I can think of no two people better to step in than Will and Kate. Long live the King.

I loved all the time I spent in the UK. But that was a long time ago. Don't give a rip about the "Royals" now. Bye bye Charlie 3 sticks.

Who cares. My wife's mother was from England, married a GI, and finally was able to come to the States.
My wife took her to England several years ago to visit, and her mother was ready to come home after the first day as she said England was not the Country she remembered.

That's the big mystery here. The Royal PR staff royally screwed up. Or maybe they were bypassed. Normally, all official information publicly released about the Royals would go through multiple levels of intense scrutiny first. But apparently not this time in an extreme breach of protocol. Kate's copy of Photoshop has probably already been deleted.

It's not the Britain I left as recently as 1997. Our family queen bee saw me being here as a phase, at the end of which I would return to the fold. Then, about 10 years ago, she shocked me during a phone call by saying, "Stay where you are. You wouldn't like it here anymore." A lot of stuff has gone bad over there. PC pushed beyond the limits of stupidity, and do-something-itis is at fever pitch in government.

That actually makes sense that she’d be undergoing chemo/radiation follow up and needs several months to recover.

One has to wonder why there have been no story leaks. Surely there must be dozens, if not many more, people who know what's going on. Security at the palace must be extremely tight.

People lose their collective minds over the weirdest, most trivial things. They are essentially lambasting Princess Kate for doing what three-quarters of the moms on Facebook already do - edit, crop, add a filter (or whatever) to their kids' pictures to make them look just a little bit better when they post them. This is where they choose to draw their Line In The Sand??? Amazing...

That the picture was photoshopped was not the reason. The real reason is that it was Photoshopped badly. Many believe that Kate has a much more serious medical problem than has been portrayed, and the doctored picture is evidence of a cover-up plot. Following the doings of Royals is a serious sport of great interest to Britons, despite the fact that the Royals are essentially just hogs in a feeding frenzy at the public trough. Sort of like Taylor Swift is here. Just remember what the reaction there was to the death/murder of ex-Princess Di (take your choice). The country and the monarchy nearly shut down over it.
