Miss Baxter
Well, we went about a decade and a half 'dog free".
Momma decided she wanted a dog.
So, we got a dog.
This one, if true to past experiences, could outlive us.
Our very first dog we had over 17 years.
Our second dog we had over 18 years.
We liked our dogs and they liked us.
Meet Baxter.
She is a lab mix and the vet says she is about 12 months old (in February this year).
She is a rescue. We acquired her from the city of Carrollton, Tx animal shelter.
They had her labeled as a 'stray'.
Someone has spent an extraordinary amount of time with this one.
Potty trained, leash trained, kennel trained, some obedience training.
Plus, she was free. They waived any and all fees.
She likes playing with the ball, but, she will open her mouth and drop it into your hand. No fight for it.
She will play as soft and tender as you want, OR, duke it out with you if that's what you want her to do. Ha...
At a very lean 50 pounds she can handle it.
She is an exceptional dog.
I personally trained my last lab mix and this one will require very little to fine tune her to our expectations of obedience.
I use a 'gentle lead' on her. She is familiar with that as I sit down with it in my hand she also sits down, waits for the install and doesn't move until I put the leash on her and give her the command to come. Now she is in my control.
Here are a couple of pics of our new house guest.
She is silver/gray black.
Her eyes in the first picture are a bit sleepy.
enjoy,
bdGreen

She may have been free, but she's worth more than all the money in the world. Congrats on the addition to the family.

My little brother lives right next door to you in Coppell. We ate at a place called Babe's last time we were there. Pretty good fried chicken. Also when I'm over there, I like to go to the Texas Card House right there at 35E and 635

I don't know what she's mixed with, but whatever it was sure threw a gorgeous coloring. It's imperative that you provide duck retrieving training...so send her up here (I'll pay shipping) and I promise that at the conclusion of every duck season for the next 15 years I'll update you on her progress.
