Cat gets shipped from UT to CA in Amazon box
We know that cats like Amazon boxes. Maybe this one not so much now.
Missing cat found in Amazon warehouse after being shipped in return box
A missing cat was found by an Amazon warehouse worker after the feline was accidentally shipped over 1,000 kilometres to California from Utah in an Amazon return box.
Galena, a tortoise-shell cat with big blue eyes, was found alive after being stuck in a cardboard box for six days without food and water. Trapped with only boxes of shoes that her owners were returning to Amazon, Galena somehow endured her ordeal.
In the famous Schrödinger’s cat hypothesis, a cat in a box is both alive and dead until someone looks inside – and in the case of one mischievous cat from Utah discovered inside an Amazon return package, it was very much alive...

(Well, a box inside said CAT)

Good thing the feline survived. I'd call that a catastrophe averted.
I'll go to my room now...

Ironic it was a pair of CAT boots they were returning. They didn't notice how heavy the box was? "Galena" is lead ore.

One place I lived in the UK there was a gray tabby who liked to climb into cars and snuggle down under a front seat. It was game on if you spotted it and tried to remove it manually, as declawing cats was not a thing in England, and probably still isn't. Weird thing was if you moved the car at all it was panicsville to get out, and when he/she did climb out, it was with a look of absolute disgust. Just looking for a place out of the British weather, I suppose, but the cat never showed much interest in coming in the house, unlike some of the others in that 'hood.

This "owner" is an idiot.
I've never lost any of my pets in my life. They're family members. I always make sure they're accounted for, numerous times a day.

We had a Siamese years ago who was napping under the hood one morning when ma fired up the old Mercedes’. Lucy tore out of there like the proverbial scalded cat! Ma had a bad feeling and went home at lunch to check on her. Found her in a neighboring field pretty banged up,the fan had caught her.A trip to the vet revealed a broken pelvis and tail. She was young and healed, but her tail forever had a kink in it

Sounds like an accident to me.
Very likely the cat owner put the shoes in the box, walked away from the box for a moment, retuned, quickly folded the flaps shut and taped them down. Not noticing the cat jumped inside the box when the owner turned their back.

Cats, like Pete, are drawn to shoe boxes.

I always found it interesting that cats seem to like to get in boxes and bowls that are so small their flaps and flab hang over all the edges.

Back in England we had a feral cat family living nearby. The kittens kept climbing up into the wheelarches and under the hood. The mother would chase them out and scold them, because she knew it was dangerous.
They grew up some, and the tom kitten went back to climbing into the engine bay. Inevitably, one night I started the car at about 2100 and there was a thump and a yowl. I shut off the motor, but turned on the headlights. A grumpy cat appeared looking back at the car in disgust, not realizing he should be thankful that that GM saw fit to equip that motor with a viscous coupled fan. He was fine, but I don't think he got up under my car ever again.
