I've been a dog person all my life, never had a cat. I usually wind up with a pooch in need of help, the last one was thrown out of a car. Never had a better dog. Well this cat, who seemed to have gotten the worst of a fight, has been at our door for about a week and Mrs. Sheepdawg started feeding it. You know what's happened she now is part of the family. Turns out she's been completely declawed, only weighs 6 1/2 lbs. no wonder she lost the fight. We took her to a vet, she's lost some of her right ear. The vet says after looking at her eyes she's a senior citizen but healthy. I can't let this little old cat back out with no claws to defend herself with so meet Miss Kitty. Original name huh. Blame Mrs.Sheepdawg.

Cats are definitely nothing like dogs but she's a sweetheart. Can open doors and hide with the best. Spent an hour yesterday morning tracking her down, wife going nuts. I found her in the master bedroom closet snoozing. I watched her prop open the door to it this morning wanting in.

My dogs waiting for me in heaven will have something to say I'm sure.

So she's declawed but not microchipped? That's unusual on this day and age. Female gingers are pretty quick to adopt new staff in my experience.

IMHO that's criminal letting a declawed cat out. I realize that some times they sneak out but for a person to allow, it no way!

We have had over the years 10 cats and no way will we let them out. Even our big Maine Coons were no match for what we have wandering around. At least in the better weather we have a large 28X16 screened in front porch for the cats to get back to nature.

All our cats lost their front claws, they could all climb trees, cats don't protect themselves with their claws, they bite and use their claws to hold onto their prey or attacker, the hind claws are the ones they fight with. One of our cats would go with us to our lake property and once caught a mouse, he wasn't hungry enough and didn't know what to do with it. Our cats would use their paws to grab onto whatever they wanted to grab including the doorknob to open at will. Nevertheless, they all became house cats which was the rule to be declawed, it is a significant, painful loss but my wife would not tolerate clawed up furniture and even still the bottom of speakers, couches and curtains got snagged while the cat was scooting along on its side. I'm fairly certain that if one could ask any of our guys if loosing their front claws and nuts was worth it, they would probably say "Yeah." They all lived more than ten years with us and were spoiled rotten, you could hold the door open for an hour and only one of them would venture out, the rest knew what life was like out there and would sniff the air and return to their cat bed in the sun. Most folks I know that have full cats with claws and nuts don't have them for very long, traffic, dogs, owls and coyotes take a toll on country cats. A buddy of mine just lost his favorite cat that was allowed into the house but lived an outside life as well, just didn't show up as usual. Six years is the longest he has been able to keep a cat, he is out in the country and that makes sense to me.

We have been rescuing cats for 44 years. All were/are indoor cats.
None were/are de-clawed.
