Josh is now a Lt. (j.g.)
With the exception of my LEO daughter, who wasn't able to get time off, we all went up to pin Josh's Lt. (j.g.) bars on in Norfolk. While (in his X.O.'s own words) all it requires is an Ensigns ability to fog a mirror in order to get promoted, it represents a milestone to him and to us. We are all so proud of his achievements thus far and are in awe of the responsible young man he has become. After the ceremony, I spoke at length with his X.O., who told me how far Josh has come in his two years of commission and how he had great expectations of what he termed "an incredible young man."

It was a lot more informal than I would have thought. Leading up to this week I had envisioned dress whites, a Navy band and a smattering of Admirals…Lol. In the end, it was just his X.O., another Mustang Ensign being promoted, and Josh, all in khakis. It turns out that it’s a local tradition for a Junior Officer’s first promotion at this particular brewery. It must be a Norfolk/East Coast Officer Corps sort of thing…I wouldn’t know, I’m just a West Coast common swabbie

I suspect that the hardest part of getting to O-2 is becoming an O-1 in the first place. As long as one is then acting like a professional in terms of career development, they should be good to go.

Congrats! We have a CG Ensign, who will on JG in October. The skippers husband told us she said he was a rock star. This week he successfully coordinated the change of command he was hand picked for.

Congratulations Josh! I don't know what your job is in the Navy, but find the saltiest old Chief you can find and latch on and learn. Take care of him and he will take care of you.

Trust me, you don't want to put on "Whites" until you HAVE to,
since they are hard to keep clean.
One reason we liked it when the Skipper let us go on leave in "Civies".
Way to go on the up grade.

I know…been there as an enlisted puke. But the whites are just so damn good looking. My wife was hoping for it so he could pick up his fiancé like Zach Mayo did to Paula Porifki in Officer and a Gentleman.
Here’s his OCS grad pic. Guess we’ll have to wait for one with his jg. bars. He was getting a little perturbed by his little sisters who kept needling him for not having all the fruit salad like the Mustang Officer that got promoted with him. They are really good at getting under his skin
And here’s one with his fiancé that I forgot to put in the original post.
