Ozempic
Anybody taking this product? Any side effects experienced? Did they improve with time?

My wife and I both take it. The only side effect is a reduction in the amount I have to spend at the gun store (The stuff is not cheap). Other than that, it just does it's job. We both have lost a little weight.

I started using Mounjaro, but the side effects got too bad. I couldn’t/didn’t want to eat anything, and I’d get dizzy from not eating.
I had to stop it. I sure lost weight, though!
I now have Ozempic, but haven’t used any yet. After my Mounjaro experience, I’m waiting until I have a couple of clear days after taking it, just in case I have problems.
I’ll be following this.

I have been on it for 6 weeks for glucose issues, and it does create problems with my innards

I use Mounjaro
I started several years ago (2021) on Victoza an early form of GLP
Kind of a predecessor to Ozempic
It helped significantly. So much that my doctor decided to take me off since my T2 was stabilized . But stayed on Janumet which is a time release metformin.
At this time most doctors did not equate GLPs with weight loss. Now they do
in early 2023 My Doctor switched me from Janumet to Mounjaro
I started at 2.5 and am now on 12.5
No side effects. a1c at 5.0 or less
No side effects...the most serious side affect would be to the pancreas. Potentially dangerous so you need to start off at low dose like 2.5 then carefully move up if warranted
I do believe if you are on a GLP one must eat minimal processed food aka simple carbs (Sugar) kept to absolute minimum. I eat high fat (Lard, tallow, olive oil, avocado oil all good) and high protein and very few processed carbs (ex. Bread, pasta) to keep weight down and blood sugar stabilized. Small amount of rice or potato seems to be ok. Less processed the better. I believe it reduces blood sugar spikes and drops. Which are very uncomfortable even if in reasonable ranges.
I also advise checking blood sugar frequently. I know some who utilize a continuous monitor to really manage blood sugar.

I have been on Ozempic since January. A1C is down to 7.3 from around 9.2. No weight loss, and no discernable side effects. Seems to work so far as primary use is for Diabetes. Blood sugar levels are stable around 100. Some low and some high, but over-all OK. Typical diabetic diet. If it's yellow or white, don't eat it.

Never taken it, never will. I've learned to eat less and excercise more.
About twelve years ago I lost 60 pounds. I lost it and have kept it off following the above.

Was reading an article recently that posited the reason that we have such a problem with obesity in the US in recent decades is that we consume so much ultraprocessed food.
Ultra processed food as the cause seems to be developing as a growing consensus among scientists. As I understand it, these foods are by design, by their chemical formulas, super tasty and suppress feelings of satiety. So we eat more and buy more — good for corporate profits, of course. And they're convenient, have long storage life, and cheap as all get out, so, naturally, they are pervasive.
Advice on how to counter this that I have read elsewhere is to try to eat food that looks like food, food that anyone would recognize as food.
(My sister has a story about accompanying some refugees from somewhere in Africa during their first visit to a US supermarket. Entering the store, they looked around expectantly. Then one said, "But where is the food?")
The article I mentioned above was pro Ozempic, by the way. It's thesis is that since we are stuck in a morass of ultraprocessed food that is darn near impossible to avoid, being obese is not a moral failure, not due to gluttony or weakness. It's a result of our environment.
Ozempic, the writer believes, is an antidote to preserve our health in a hostile environment. The writer is not a doctor, just a person with a lifelong struggle with weight who believes that in Ozempic she has found a solution.

Very good perspective
These GLP’s (victoza, ozempic, mounjaro) physically keep the body in a fasted state as opposed to a fed state. Meaning lower lower blood sugar and thus insulin levels and less fat storage. And increased usage of body fat . Intermittent fasting aids in this process as well. And exersize is very important too as was earlier mentioned

I took it for about sixteen months. Offhand, I had a metallic taste that would appear off and on until my dose increased to one ML. My appetite was not suppressed, rather I had a “why bother” attitude towards eating. I felt lethargic during that time. I was constipated, the prep for my scheduled colonoscopy didn’t work, causing me to do the prep a second time and go sixty-four hours without eating. I had difficulty falling asleep.
I lost just over thirty pounds but wasn’t losing weight fast enough to suit my doctor so he quit prescribing it. Frankly, I feel better and sleep somewhat better now. If there is another way to achieve your weight loss goals I strongly suggest you give that a go first.

I know one thing; I'm sick of hearing/seeing the stupid commercials on TV. I'm a type II diabetic. I'm taking one pill (Januvia 100mg) and 20 units of insulin a night via injection. I'm walking 25-30 miles a week and eating healthy. The latest report from my doctor's visit this past week yielded an A1C of 6.0. I'll keep doing what I'm doing.

This topic strikes a nerve with me. There are threads on here about the cost of insurance and meds all the time. Insurance companies ( which I despise) are paying for these drugs so people can loose weight. Dr’s make sure they qualify them with underlying conditions blah blah blah. How bout this. Mix in a salad and some exercise. Show a little discipline. If you take it for real medical reasons that’s fine. But if your taking it to loose weight your driving up premiums for everyone. I have 4 sisters. 3 of them are or have used it for weight loss. I’ve expressed my point of view to them too.

Are you winded after climbing up on your soapbox? Careful up there, if you slip and break a hip or ankle, or tear a meniscus, you’ll likely need medical attention and insurance to help pay for repairs and recovery assistance. Or, you could just try some salad/exercise/discipline. Obesity is a medical condition. Isn’t it better to try everything one can to control or defeat obesity so additional monies and treatments aren’t necessary for the remainder of a patient’s life? Some people get exercise induced asthma, which limits their ability to exercise.
As the father of a handicapped child, I had a running battle with school administrators, officials, educators, SRO’s, parking lot Nazi’s and various others who thought they could shame and ridicule my daughter into being cured.
A little kindness, compassion, and empathy for others and their maladies please.

Please read onomeas post 13
The class of drugs known as GLP’s address the overarching condition referred to as insulin resistance. The relationship between diabetes type 2 and obesity is significant. Studies also connect certain dementias as well. I wont post references but it’s easy to google. These drugs can help a huge segment of the population. It may well turn out to be more effective in the long run than injectable insulin. Having an effective tool is not a bad thing. Unfortunately it’s thinking like you suggest ( If your fat it’s all your fault ) essentially causes people to give up and end up on kidney dialysis. Education is also key. The medical profession, US Govt and nutritionists across the country hold their share of blame as well. Genetics play a role. Yes the individual is responsible for his or her health but as a population we’ve been given bad information going back to the 1960’s. Ie…low fat diet and less red meat and less dark chicken = health. Wrong!
Again google keto, paleo, lo carb, etc…Not saying any or all are 100%
But they all have one thing in common: processed carbs are problematic and less carbs in general is essentially to many people for controlled body fat.
If this drug helps people lose weight and get healthy despite the vanity motivation that’s a good thing. It can encourage optimism to exercise and eat right (Which by the way means more fat, more protein , and a few veggies are good too.)
Kidney dialysis is much more expensive AND since about from the late 1930’s YOU and I hsve been and are now paying that tab thanks to FDR. Kidney Dialysis is significantly supplemented (maybe 100%) by the US govt. not to say the clinics have found a way to squeeze patients for more than they get from the govt.
Further more there are very likely connections to improved cholesterol results. HDL,LDL and Triglycerides. Anyone here on a statin ?
If these GLP’s can stave off a litany of drugs and medical treatment later in life I vote yes.

I have members of my family circle that are clinically obese. It is nigh on impossible for them to "lose" weight. They have been shamed, bullied and ridiculed. They are all under a doctor's care and receive/received counselling as they have entertained thoughts of harming themselves.
Try listening to a grandchild cry herself to sleep agonizing over having to go to school the next day. Go in and talk to her of "discipline".
I take no truck with fat shamers.

I don't even know what it's for, just like all the other drugs they push on TV. As soon as that destruction of a terrible ELO song comes on, TV goes mute; even if the Mrs. is watching Hallmark and has control of the remote.

My Doc, trying to get my A 1C down sampled me on an injection, the put me on Ozempic. I had every listed negative reaction, and I never do that. Seriously nauseated, and very unhappy, and more.
Quit it as soon as I figured out what had happened. Tried Trulicity and the only negative reaction was the cost. Taking a pill now, and Doc and I are both happy.

I’m pretty sure I said if you take it for legit medical reasons ok. I’m talking about people taking it for vanity purposes….. and yes, the view is very nice from a top my soapbox.

Basically GLP-1 inhibitors are for T2DM and also can "help with metabolic syndrome." The latter is a catchall definition for a multiplicity of "interlocking diseases". Can look up the full definition on the NIH web site ( The page you’re looking for isn’t available. | National Institutes of Health (NIH)). Also the first GLP-1 inhibitor (semaglutide) was based on one of the salivary peptides of the "Gila monster", so move to AZ and get bitten by a rather large lizard.

I stopped Mounjaro, the nightmares stopped.
Go figure?

I just don't eat. I'm on a liquid diet. I'm down to 180. A1C is like 5.1. My back hurts like all heck. I have vitamins for that. The neck pain is pretty much susbsided. The non-narcotics fixed that, for now.
