I thought that Dune Part 2 would resolve the saga and of course the producers had other plans. There are so many cliffhanger movies and Series on Max, Netflix and Amazon Prime that I lost count. Nothing is short and sweet these days for TV viewers.

Hard to do the Dune books in movies, just not enough time.

When they did Lord of the Rings, it should have been obvious to the most casual observer that it would take multiple movies. Good grief, it had even been advertised as a trilogy. Also, if you were familiar with the first book, you would know that it ends with Frodo and Sam on their own and far from their goal. When I went to the see the movie, at the end a guy in the row in front stood up as the credits were rolling and said something to the effect of, "That's not an ending!" No, and it was never meant to be, but I guess he was expecting some repackaging of the end of the first Star Wars film. Tough.

I'm a big Tolkein fan, and thought the Lord of the Rings trilogy movie was pretty good. But when they then made a bunch of movies about the Hobbit, with stuff not in the original, fairly short book, well.... I did not like it. Think I only saw one of The Hobbit movies...

Actually, I kinda liked David Lynch's Dune, although I believe it was generally panned. Have only seen the first of the new Dune movie trilogy, but enjoyed it well enough, and look forward to the second and third.

Love that film. Had never read the books, but I was able to follow it with the supplied narrative voice overs. Thing is, that requires paying attention, something that was already in short supply in the 80s. Yes, it has some seriously weird and gory sequences that don't necessarily add to the story, but they were never meant to. They were there to reinforce just how alien the whole environment was compared to "Earth normal" of the day. That seems to be too big a step for many movie goers. Look, it's sci-fi, they ain't living these lives in Podunk, Iowa.

We've got all the cable channels, Netflix and Amazon. That said, I can't remember the last time we saw a movie I thought was great! Hollywood is putting out junk these days.

Actually, I do remember...... the last Tom Cruise Top Gun Maverick movie was pretty exiting. That was about 2 years ago!

I grew up in the 60's/70's and read books. So when I go to that type of movie I know what to expect going in the door. Most of "Gen Whatever" doesn't read anything! So, their limited attention span is offended if the story isn't complete in one trip!

Star Wars is 9+ movies
Star Trek is 6+ (plus a couple that shouldn't exist)
Hobbit/Lord of the Rings is 4+ still growing!
Jack Ryan is 40+ books with the offspring and only a few movies and the cable series

I have several series of books that run 20+ volumes. I could enjoy a year series. (and have with Star Wars!)

Just watched part two with my brother, who is a big Dune fan. It plodded along in several places, which nearly put me asleep. Someone not familiar with the book would probably loose interest before the end.
The 1984 adaption, with Kyle MacLachlan, was faster paced and kept my interest, even if it didn't quite hold to the story.
