Is this a current trend of carrying three magazines ?

I can't speak for anywhere else but Colorado Springs Police Department carries four that you can see.

Yes, I'm afraid it is. Even in private security.

Agencies that prohibit more than two reloads usually specify "on the belt" don't count those magazines NOT on the belt.

Toward the end of the revolver era, cops who carried them around here usually had three speed loaders on the belt and a Bianchi speed strip or two in the pocket.

I carried 2 1911 mags weak side in my LEO days.

Same today. They fit in my CC holster pouch.
