Default First Bike Week Casualty

At least only bikes were killed in this one. I was going to Ormond Beach Friday, and got caught in the traffic on 95 South.

I saw a lot of bike frames in the trailer as I passed by. Pictures are from Palm Coast Fire Departments page. The fire was out when I went by.

Ouch!

I'm guessing the gas tanks weren't drained.

Wow, in all these years I don't think I've even heard of that happening. Just one more reason why you should ride your bike to Trailer Week.

Folks ship their Harleys down for bike week. Ride them 50 miles in the week, box them up and ship them back to Sheboygan while flying home. Been happening the 45 years I been here. We are glad to have them and their "bottomless wallets." Joe

Had a buddy who was gonna make a million dollars with his idea. Spray on bugs for those who trailered their bikes.

My bike usually stays in the garage Bike Week. I visit my mom everyday during the winter months in Ormond Beach. In a 4 mile stretch I pass Annie Oakleys, Broken Spoke Saloon, Beaver Bar, Boot Hill Outpost, and The Iron Horse Saloon. It's a nightmare getting thru that area during Bike Week.

Usually drive past the US1 exit at Destination Daytona, and get off 95 on 40.

I'm always glad when the madness ends.

Rode most of my life and sold my last HD Ultra Classic 3 years ago when I hit 68. Figured I would hang up my chaps BEFORE I had an accident! I never did have one and wanted to end my riding career on a high note. Never looked back! BTW, I rode well over 120,000 miles and did a bunch of cross country trips. Had a blast but decided it was just time.

I was always amazed at the number of trailers that would pass me on I-95 when I rode down for Biketoberfest. Surprisingly, most originated in the Carolinas.

My favorite was the time I was chugging along on my Shovel minding my own business when a four door pickup hauling a trailer passed me. There was a bumper sticker on the trailer door that read "Ride Hard or Stay Home". I just kinda chuckled. I've always said, if you see my bike on a trailer it's either broke or stolen.

We still see a lot of riders on I-95 as they head to bike week.

Same as the corvette meetup in Carlisle PA every August. Trailers fill up parking lots right near the fairgrounds, or they unload on the residential streets and drive in.
Some come from as far away as PA and MD.
Those “real corvettes” according to the “experts”.

OUCH!!!!!!!

I am a "ride your bike to the event" kinda guy. I understand that sometimes it's a necessity, but there are way too many wannabe pansies with bikes and we know who you are.

Never been to Daytona. Not sure I need to go. I would like to see the races, but the riding in the area is just meh, or worse. Sturgis is easy for me, about 600 miles, one long day or preferably two. The payoff at the end is much better. The Black Hills is one of the best riding venues in the country.
I never used to even consider trailering. I rode an old BMW and passed every Harley I saw. Today’s Harleys are capable of much faster sustained road speeds , so the difference is not as glaring, on the highway at any rate.
There is a nice, shady rest area at Wasta, where I90 crosses the Cheyenne River. It is about 70 miles from Sturgis, and is a favorite place for trailers full of Harleys to unload to ride for the last hour or so. The guys ride their bikes while the women pull the trailers.
I don’t ride road bikes out there any more. I usually bring a dirt bike and some flavor of 650 dual sport bike. That means a trailer for me. I tell myself there is no shame in it, especially as I might not ever get to Sturgis proper because there are so many trails through the Hills that offer better riding.
