Default Outdoors Trader Swap Meet a Bust

ODT here in Georgia started having "gun shows" at the Cobb County civic Center, and they were well attended. Yesterday ODT had one at the Macon coliseum. Drove through the nightmarish traffic for 2 HOURS to get there. When we got there I said, where are all the cars?. Once inside I asked, where are the people? A few of my friends who set up at the ATL shows were there and I met some good people but the customer attendance was really low.

It was not a total BUST. I found, mostly buried in boxes, some very nice S&W stocks. One diamond center SB J frame magna. One J frame SB/RB targets. One RB J target (banana) in GA, with great grain. One J SB magna. All in beautiful condition.

My buddy traded a 30-30 Henry for a 45-70 Henry and bought a 24V in 223/20 gauge so it was not a total bust for him. I brought some fine S&W revolvers to walk around with and sold nothing.

After saying good by to the dozen or so people that were still there we hit the road (I-16/I-75) for a 2 hour+20 minute drive home that should have been 1+40. Typical ATL traffic.

ODT needs to do more advertising. The only thing they did was let people know through there web-site, theoutdoorstrader.com.

Pics of my new stocks later.

A herd of wild horses couldn’t drag me back to Macon, GA. If my older brother wasn’t resting in Middle Georgia Memory Gardens I would never go back there.

The Atlanta traffic seems to start between Forsyth and McDonough and become heavier and slower as one approaches I-285.

I'm south of Atlanta. It's 96 miles from our hacienda to the State Capitol. In my career, if I had an 0800 meeting, I would have to leave at 0400 to ensure I could park and make it on time. If going to a downtown attorney's office, even worse.

Bathroom need? It was an adventure!

I avoid the Atlanta thing like the plague. Glad that's all behind me!

We call it the McDonough Triangle.

BTW, the diamond center magnas, SN: 115717 and the stainless stock circle magnas: 188129 are looking for their original guns. If you have those guns let me know.

My work used to take me in and around Atlanta constantly - since retiring many, many years ago I NEVER travel anywhere near it for any reason! Avoid it like the plague. In fact, I've never been to the ODT Swap Meet in Cobb County because it's way too close to Atlanta for me.

Years ago, I would leave Alabama and drive through Hotlanta to go to my grandmother's house in Maryland. I stopped doing that in the '80s. It was a lot easier to go to Birmingham and then NE.

I was considering going to the NRA annual at the end of April because mrs. tlawler wanted to make one of our semi annual trips up to tally to see the kids. It’s only a four hour drive, but ugh, the traffic and crowds😬

Above the sand spurs. The gnat line used to end at Cordele. Now it's almost in Macon. Unadilla is the king of gnat country.

If you drive highway 41 through Unadilla, it's thought everyone there is waving at you.

They are not. They are swatting flies. The UNIDILLA WAVE.

I could always spot the locals in LA (Lower Alabama). They were the ones not waving the gnats away. Why bother? They just come back. Then there are the love bugs that cover your windshield when they hatch out and start to mate! Sand spurs and fire ants. Don't get me wrong. I loved living in LA. Both my children were born there. The smell of peanuts drying in the fields is something you never forget. Wiregrassguy can tell you all about LA.

Around this area, bugs aren't much of a problem. Down in the southern part of the state, though, we have Klamath Lake. The highway hugs the shore on one side and the bugs are fierce. Guys used to make money just sitting on the side of the road with a squeegee and a bucket of soapy water. $2 to wash the bug paste off your windshield. Wipers and washers just kind of spread it around. If you're riding a bike, don't smile or you won't need, or want, lunch on the other side.

Hydrogen peroxide is about the only thing that will remove the lovebugs if they have baked a little.

They swarm twice a year. Late spring and early fall. They were so bad in the early seventies you had to mount a dedicated grill screen to save your car.

Think lovebugs are bad now? They once caused a public safety crisis in Florida.
