Jim Henson graduated from the U. of Md. and my High School (Northwestern) which is literally just down the road from the university.

Born in Greenville, Mississippi, and raised in both Leland, Mississippi, and University Park, Maryland, Henson began developing puppets in high school. He created Sam and Friends (1955–1961), a short-form comedy television program on WRC-TV, while he was a freshman at the University of Maryland, College Park, in collaboration with fellow student Jane Nebel. Henson and Nebel co-founded Muppets, Inc. – now The Jim Henson Company – in 1958, and married less than a year later in 1959. Henson graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in home economics.

Jim Henson has been gone since 1990--died on the same day as Sammy Davis Jr.
What next-having a historical character give a commencement speech ?

Who does this generation of grads have to look up to and admire?

Pick a pro sports player. The bigger the head case, the better.
There's some genius that owns space flight, electric cars manufacturing, among a ton of other stuff with his brother. That's who this generation should be looking up to

Greenville, Miss. I went to basic medical training there in 1963 at Greenville AFB, the base closed down shortly after that. I haven't thought about that place in years. It was a nice little town at the time.

Didn't go to my college graduation, so I don't know ow who gave the speech.

Maybe if I had known it was gonna be Kermit I may have gone.

All that nonsense is a waste of time anyway

Better than some of the morons that do it I guess.

Triumph would be a better fit for this generation.

My HS commencement was held at the Cincinnati Gardens home to the Cincinnati Royals. The speaker was Bob Cousy.

It is yet to date one of the best motivational speeches I have heard in person.

Why not? I doubt many remember who spoke at their graduation let alone what they said. Heck just get me out of here!:D

I did not do college but my high school graduation was held at a bigger schools auditorium. It was a very hot day and of course back in mid 60s no AC. We just wanted it to be over and other than our rather famous principal, Ben Becker giving a speech I do not recollect who else spoke.

Our principal was the Olympic boxing coach who worked with Cassius Clay (his name then) He was always worth listening to!

Seriously, do you remember who gave your commencement speech? I don't, and it was only 35 years ago.. but 2 rounds of chemo & one of radiation have scrambled quite a few memories.
