Robert McNamara dies at 93

A lot of vets believe he was the main reason we "lost" the VietNam war. If we would have continued the North bombing, the war would have ended differently.

I thought he was still working lately, but had changed his name to Donald Rumsfeld ...
Do they look similar to anyone else?

Two names; Larry Williams and Robert Sandoval. I doubt that anyone here ever heard these names or know these two guys. They were just numbers. Other than their friends and family, nobody much cares. It is too bad that McNamara lived a long peaceful life in luxury rather than dying in a filthy street in Hue or from stepping on a land mine.

he should have been tried for treason and shot by firing squad. burn in hell

Unfortunately his brand of hubris is alive and well today; if anything, it's worse.

We are slow learners. I include myself in that number.

SEA 66-67

He and LBJ were the two biggest villains in US History, at least in my lifetime. McNamara
was also a good example of a "quantification quack" responsible for so many of the problems of American business in the last 50 years or so.
One Vietnam vet said McNamara should have been forced to put on a Buddhist monk's saffron robe and walk around DC with a mendicant's bowl for the rest of his days.

The AP has an article on McNamara which tells why he is so despised. The vast majority of casualties came after he believed we should change course but he lied to the world about what was happening. There is blood on his hands.

" McNamara disclosed that by 1967 he had deep misgivings about Vietnam - by then he had lost faith in America's capacity to prevail over guerrillas who had driven the French from the same jungle countryside.

Despite those doubts, he had continued to express public confidence that the application of enough American firepower would cause the Communists to make peace. In that period, the number of U.S. casualties - dead, missing and wounded - went from 7,466 to over 100,000."

Another of the Self-Anointed Elite passes, he knew better than the Military how the job should be done and what tools were needed. He would have fit right in with the current crowd. Funny that few of these guys are ever mourned.

His intellectual dishonesty altered my life, and ruined or ended tens of thousands of Americans' lives, and millions of Vietnamese lives. I'm not mourning him. A bunch of us would probably be better off had he died 45 years ago.

Maybe he and Michael Jackson can be cell mates (hell mates?) for eternity. Wouldn't that be fun for the both of them? :D
