I'll start the ball rolling with this one, which is actually pretty rare. It was manufactured by AR Sales in 1969. It was known as the Mark IV. This is an early one, with a 3-digit serial number. The G.I. national match barrel was fitted to the gun at the factory as a favor to me. I replaced the original walnut stock with a G.I. fiberglass stock for ruggedness and accuracy. The action is VERY strong. I once loaded some .311 bullets I got a gun show (without miking then - never do that again), and when fired, the primers blew out of the cases, falling into the trigger housing group and jamming the rifle. However, the action held and the headspace remained the same. As an aside, the apparent selector switch lock is a dummy for the sake of appearance. It's a plastic part attached to the stock to fill in the selector switch hole. This was one of the first semiautomatic M14 clones made in this country, and cost me all of $150 when new.

M14s may not be flavor of the week here on S&W forum with no replies so far.

Here's my early Springfield Armory M1A serial No. 0042XX with a 1-69 SAK manufactured barrel.

I love M1A's....a Scout, whether a Springer or LRB Tanker, is my next gun. Paladin, I know you collect Nylon 66's....I have one if you'd like to trade for that drab old thing.:)

I have a little newer one than some posted.

IDF sniper from Springfield Armory that I bought about 96 or so.

If anyone wants to hear the story on these I would be glad to post it.

I've found one is never enough of anything.

These are just crummy records photos. The top one came off the bullitin board at work with six like new GI mags and a bayonet. This is when M-14 mags were 55-60 bucks a piece. The gentleman had been in the Army when they carried these and bought it new back in 86 or 87. After we agreed on a price I found out that it had all the extras, I almost felt bad for about a second.

This one I picked up in a shop for a fair price, because I sort of wanted to put away the other one. It was just a SA "loaded" gun, I put the NM sights on. Then I found this scope, I thought it would be perfect. It is a Khales ZF 84 on a smith enterprise mount with Mounting Solutions 26mm rings. It was used when I bought it, but I will never be able to aford a piece of glass like that otherwise. I thought it was a good match for the rifle because it actually has a steel tube on it like my old Balvar.

The bad thing is that I never got it bedded. It will never shoot to its potential without going to the next step.

I feel bad for peaple with rifles like these and FALs who didn't stock up on the cheap .308. I couldn't imagine these being nearly as fun at 20 or 25 bucks a box.

Here's mine. What they were selling as the GI Collector version back in the late '90s. Came in wood stocks with the cutout, I switched to USGI synthetic. Unitized gas cylinder, either came with or I swapped all parts to GI 'cept the barrell and receiver. Match modded flash hider and trigger group. With Aussie surplus it has fired several 3 round groups measuring one inch at 100 yards. No, I'm not pressing my luck with five.;)
Bought this in December of '99 three weeks before I shipped to Basic Training.

This one belongs to a well known instructor who is a good friend of mine. His idea of a good all-round defensive rifle, I did the paint job for him a couple of years ago.
