I found this in a junk box at the store yesterday.

This was a "Pachmayr Tactical Pocket Holster" for a Model 36, supposedly to be carried in a pouch pocket as a BUG. This is what it looks like with the gun in it.

It's actually pretty comfortable to fire with the extra weight of the spare cartridges in front. However, its demise was likely caused by two factors:

1. Restricted market - not enough potential customers. Most civilians would have no use for it.

2. Reloading speed (or lack thereof) - getting the spares out of their holders and into the gun is sloooooow. Even a dump pouch would have been much faster.

So... interesting idea, but it goes into the old holster box, probably never to be seen again.

Very interesting!

I can see how the extra round holder is a tad useless... It would be easier carrying five loose rounds in your pocket.
 
Those sell for between 30 and 40 dollars on Ebay. I kept getting outbid on them, I wanted one for a while to go with my Pachmayr rubber holsters (which they made in the days before Kydex).
 
I think the bullets in the pic are in backwards. If the rims are in the small area toward the gun, and the noses are in the larger forward area, pushing down on the noses would have the cartridge pop out. Work just like an MTM ammo wallet.

I think you're right. The packaging shows the cartridges the way you describe. I think I'd still prefer a speed strip.

Buck, my name is EDWARD, I am interested in the plastic pachmayr tactical grip if you still have it.... [email protected] thanks.
 
The wallet holster covered the gun with only the trigger exposed. ATF didn't like that and made them NFA. The Pachmayer version didn't cover as much of the gun so ATF decided you could still tell it was a gun and did not ban them. They were not a big seller and were only made for a few years. I sold one new in the package a few years ago on the forum. I found it too big to really accomplish the back pocket mission. A standard pocket holster and speed strip were much more practical.
 
Today, I called the ATF NFA Branch and asked them about the Pachmayr holster. From my description, he thought that it was not a "wallet holster" since the gun was mostly exposed to view, and therefore not an AOW when the gun was placed in it.

I sent him an e-mail with a picture of the holster, and he is going to confirm his verbal decision back to me.

I've heard that it is a very good idea, when getting information about what gun and/or part may be legal or not, to write them a real letter, using the post office. That way they send you back a real letter, on real ATF letterhead.

Emails are too easy to fake. Telephone calls disappear into the ether. A real letter in your files is so helpful when they come to arrest you for something illegal.
