Looks like its been in a sock drawer for a while, haha whats behind the trigger guard and between the handle? Beautiful!

Hi EMS. I wipe all my guns with Corrosion X impregnated rags, tends to leave cotton fibers :-)
The item between the trigger guard and the grip is called a "pre-war grip adapter". S&W sold them for about 6 years circa 1935-1941. Many people used them to improve handling with the small service style grips. In later 1935 S&W introduced the Magna grip and the sales of grip adapter slowly died out. They were not resurrected after WWII. If interested you can sort on this forum for either "grip adapters" or "Magna grips". I seem to remember posting pics some years ago showing the difference between service and magna grips.
Hope it helps.
