    .38 DA question

    .38 DA question

.38 DA Thank you everyone for excellent info and opinions. Agreed, the finish is rough but no real rust exists. Single and double action work perfect, cylinder aligns and locks up tight, and the top latch snaps right into place. The bore is a little dirty but nothing a brass brush and some...

    .38 DA question

.38 DA Funny you should say that. The unusual barrel length is what caught my eye on the gun show table. Which is odd since my main interest is the 2 inch barrel guns, whether original or chopped. Either way, may be a keeper, may not. Paid $240 for it so I feel it's a win-win.

    .38 DA question

Hi guys...just acquired a .38 Double Action which I believe is a 4th Model. Serial number is 414xxx, gun is original blue, plastic grips, and a 6 inch barrel. Seems kind of unusual with that length barrel, however, I'm a little more familiar with the Safety Hammerless. Action appears to be nice...

What S&W's have you NEVER seen in real life?

I've never seen another Safety Hammerless .38 with 1 1/2 inch barrel....besides the one in my safe. Does that count?

    38 Safety Hammerless Any Opinoins

Not to mention a cool story behind it. "Barn finds" like that fascinate me. Thanks for sharing.

    .38 Double Action

Duly noted. The "shorties" are usually my jam but I couldn't pass this up for $120. A Rem-Oil rub down and it will probably go into the safe with its brethren. Thank you Sir.

    .38 Double Action

New acquisition this past weekend, picked up this 3rd Model (179xxx) .38 top break from a local gun show, did not pay a bunch for it. It is very weathered but that's to be expected. Seems to work correctly in single and double action, but the cylinder does not lock up if turned in reverse...

    Lemon Squeezer Stuck

I realize I'm a bit late coming back to this thread, but can anyone on the forum recommend a top notch shop that could re-do this nickel plating job? In other words, if cost was not a worry (it is), who would I go to for a "nicer then new" refinish?

    Lemon Squeezer Stuck

Thanks for the detailed instructions. A bit apprehensive about digging too deep into this SH, so I think I will save it for a weekend project. I too don't believe any parts are broken, and fortunately I can put it side by side with my 2nd model and compare as I go along.

The very one. Send me the note again so we don't get in trouble on this thread.

    Lemon Squeezer Stuck

Sorry, when I used the term Lemon Squeezer, I meant the safety itself, not the gun. Yes Mike, the safety does not rebound to the safe position...although with the grips off it does have some play. I Rem-Oiled the insides, put the grips back on, and it's stuck again. I'm not sure how the gunsmith...

    Lemon Squeezer Stuck

Right after receiving it back the latch was extremely stiff, but with use has loosened up since. I have not fired it yet, but everything seems to function correctly when pulling the trigger. It's just the squeezer itself stuck and not moving one way or the other. When i get home tonight I will...

    Lemon Squeezer Stuck

OK guys, I'm not a gunsmith nor do I play one on TV, so opinions please. The lemon squeezer on my freshly re-finished .38 4th model is stuck in the engaged position, apparently since the gun will function as normal(cylinder turns, trigger good, etc.). I guess one reason may be the 'smith...
