    9mm model 59

The finish is nickel, not chrome. To echo others the 59 will handle all bullet types well, full metal jacket, hollow points, light and heavy. I would not shoot +P or ++P in the gun. It wasn't designed for heavy pressure loads. Otherwise, a very good gun.

    #5 vs #6 sear

I don't know anyone at Midway and so would not know if they were knowledgable or not. I find people on this forum to be experienced and well informed.

    #5 vs #6 sear

Midway shows a #5 sear and a #6 sear for a number of the 3rd generations.. What is the difference between the two. If I have a gun with a stiff single action pull which one would I want?

    Model 59 failure to eject

Given these are 40 years old one might expect a bit of problem. Once per mag the 59 leaves a loose case in the port lying length ways on top of the mag and of course stops the slide. It does this with factory mags with good springs, new Mec-Gar mags and other mags. The extractor looks fine with...

    Model 59 finish question.

Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black works OK on a 59. It takes several touchup applications to cover the worn areas. It must be the S&W alloy is different. A Beretta is much easier

    Houston Gun Show

One site said the G Brown show was on 3/29 & 3/30 the same date as the Pasadena show. I guess that was not correct?

    Houston Gun Show

I will be in Houston at the end of March and learned there are two gun shows that weekend. I will have only a half day to spend at one or the other. One is at the G R Brown Convention Center and the other is in Pasadena. Both are about the same distance from where I will be. Would one be...

    S&W Model 59 / 910 / 915 - Which to Buy?

All three of the models will be equal in reliability. The 59 is the first generation S&W auto. The 915 and 910 are third generation with firing pin "safety" if you care about that. All have alloy frame, so, are equal in weight. All use the same magazines. The value is about the same for all 3...

Please ID this 9mm magazine for me!!

Definitely an early Model 59 9mm double stack 14 round magazine. I have some just like it. What do those go for at a flea market?

    MOD 908 Rusty/Worth keeping?

That doesn't look bad at all from what I can see. I would use LIGHT pressure on fine steel wool and oil. Then let oil the slide.

1076 single action falling to half cock

Well it worked fine for 150 rounds when I shot it, so, I have to believe it will work. Anyway, I am going to go to the range tomorrow or the next day and test it again. I just have never had a gun do this before. I shot it again yesterday. Again, absolutely no problems. Like handgunner356...

1076 single action falling to half cock

I put in the 20 lb spring and then tried an 18 lb spring. It doesn't stop at half cock any more or less with the 18 vs. the 20. I tried the pencil test before and today. It will not go to half cock with the pencil. I couldn't get it to do it even once. If it is rebounding to half cock, what...

1076 single action falling to half cock

A follow up I got a main/hammer spring kit from Wolff, six springs of various weights. I put in the 20 lb. spring (factory weight) and it helped, but did not cure the hammer from dropping to half cock rather than firing (when dry firing). I put in the 22 lb. spring and that stopped it. It dry...
