I have the gun now and it appears to be a cut down & crowned former S&W 6". Measures 4.25" from front face of cylinder to tip of barrel. Probably after market front sight - shaved down and looks like tapped, threaded and screwed on. May have been stainless and painted flat black. Feels nice but...
The barrel measurement was done correctly and the rule here is 107mm or 4'2" minimum barrel lenth. That idiotic rule came into effect long after this 15-3 was made. There is a newer S&W stainless "Canadian" 686 at 4.2". I will take good pics when it comes to me next week and post so I'm sure...
Has anyone ever heard of a 15-3 with a 4.5" barrel? Just bought one and if it is rebarreled or cut down it must be a good job. When I take possesion I will post pics.

Toss out those mags and get a couple of Wilsons. Two came with my Pro-Series and have never failed after thousands of rounds. I also use another 10 in rotation with never a problem.

I just sold a pristine 5" 10-5 with box & contents for $825. Most in the condition yours is in go for around $600-$650 around here.

The blue box that came with my 1974 5" Model 10-5 has no markings at all. Has reinforced metal corners and original contents but no S&W logo/design and no end flap info. Appears to be an original S&W blue box. Pics below - Comments?
Thanks,
Mike
I have the Standard Smith catalogue and it isn't really very helpful for serial numbers. Does joining the S&WCA gaurentee i will be able to find serial # ship dates for older smiths. I don't care about anything newer than about 1980.
Thanks,
Mike
I just bought an ANIB Model 10 serial # D648336. It was described as a 10-5 circa 1962 but this serial number begins with"D" which my Standard Smith catalogue tells me began in 1967. Also 10-6 began later in 1962. Can you tell me what year my serial number is from. I don't see it in my Smith...

This is a follow up to another thread (above). I originally thought i was buying an old model 27 but determined it's actually a pre 27 so here is a bit more on that:

I know another member posted a report on this pistol a while back but I thought I’d also share a bit on my new addition:
You may know this tip already but if you want to see pictures larger, hold the "CTRL" key while turning your mouse wheel one way or 'tother.
I liked the other 9mm 1911’s...
