Model 66-8 4.25" and Galco Phoenix Holster

Gingerman - I do not own a 66-8, but I do use a model 69 with the 4.25 inch barrel with both a Galco Dual Position Phoenix and a Galco Summer Comfort. The 4.25 inch barrel extends a slight bit beyond the end of the holster with the Dual Position Phoenix, but not the Summer Comfort. I hope this...

    Holster for model 69?

I use a Galco Dual Position Phoenix with my M69. It has a thumb break, is adjustable for tension, and fits any L-frame revolver. More importantly, it can be used for strong-side or cross-draw carry. The cross-draw feature is handy if you also pack a rifle or have to sit in a vehicle for a...

    Personal Opinion...686SSR or 686+???

This may not be important to you, but I really like the easily interchangeable front sight feature of the 686 SSR. It has a spring-loaded mounting system that allows the sight to be changed in 5-10 seconds. I put on a .250" SDM gold bead front sight on mine and it's now perfect. I am...

Just picked up a Model 69!

I love this revolver. I've used Magtech, American Eagle, Fiocchi, Remington, Speer - it doesn't matter. It shoots all of them well. I had a 6 inch barrel 629-1 that couldn't group with nearly as well as the 69. It seems that the 69 has less apparent recoil than the 629? I am also...

Looking at 686 SSR Any thoughts?

I've mentioned this in previous postings. I owned an early 686 SSR, which I shot very well. It had a forged trigger, forged hammer and a trigger stop. I foolishly traded it in for a mint condition Walther P5 that I equipped with a brand new set of Nils stippled grips. As much I admired the...

    686+ vs 686 Pro

I love the 686 SSR, as you can tell from my log-in name. I foolishly traded my first SSR for a Walther P5. What a mistake! I had to buy another. I like the easily interchangeable front sight. It simply snaps in and out. The SSR now sports a .250 SDM gold bead front sight, which works great...

Installing a SDM Fabricating Gold Bead Sight on a 686SSR?

Update- At gynstrom's suggestion, I called S&W and attempted to purchase a 625JM front sight. They were out of stock, but customer service told me to call either Brownell or Midway. I ordered a .250" SDM gold bead front sight from Midway It just arrived. The old sight was a bit difficult to...

    Model 69 opinions?

I love the Model 69. I bought it on a whim after reading a review by John Taffin. I couldn't be happier. I've tried a variety of ammo, Speer 200 grain 44 special, 240 grain 44 magnum rounds by Fiocchi, Magtech, Remington, Federal, etc. They all shoot well. I hate to admit it, but my 44...

Installing a SDM Fabricating Gold Bead Sight on a 686SSR?

Super Dave - I will try gnystrom's suggestion to install a 625JM gold bead. That sounds like a great starting point to see how well my eyes are able to pick out a gold bead. Thanks for asking.

Installing a SDM Fabricating Gold Bead Sight on a 686SSR?

A huge thank you to everyone that responded. I had no idea that the 686 SSR front sight could be replaced without tools. I was ready to buy a small punch. Thank goodness I didn't. I appreciate all of your helpful suggestions.

Installing a SDM Fabricating Gold Bead Sight on a 686SSR?

As I am getting older (I am partially color-blind), it's becoming more difficult to pick up the red inset front sight on my 686 SSR. I'm looking into replacing it with a SDM Fabricating gold bead front sight. First, I have a couple questions: 1. Has anyone on this forum done this? If so...

    Holster recommendation for 686SSR?

I am using a GALCO Dual Position Phoenix with a 686 SSR. It's well made and allows either a strong side carry or a cross draw when packing a rifle. I like that the holster's tension is adjustable and it also works with my Model 69.

    Any SSR Owners?

I first had an early one with a forged hammer, forged trigger and a trigger stop. Single hole accuracy at practically any reasonable distance. I loved it. In a weak moment I traded the SSR in one of the dumbest trades ever. I saw a mint condition Walther P5, 8th iteration. I had to have...

    629 or 69

Have you had an opportunity to handle and shoot both? For me, the L-frame fits my hand much better. More importantly, I shoot my 69 far more accurately than the recently departed 629. Wouldn't five accurately placed 44 specials or 44 magnums be sufficient?

    New Model 66-8

PR 24 - I've never seen the 66-8 in person, but if the 66-8 design is similar to my Model 69, the barrel shroud has a large notch that is "keyed" into a matching mating piece on the frame. With that design, I wonder how that's possible to ever end up with a canted barrel? Someone must have...
