I use a .45 cal bore brush and usually only use nylon. If there is alot of crap built up I will use a bronze brush. For the cylinder I use a .50 brush of the same materials.

I had the same sight on one I bought last year. It wasn't factory, it was an Extreme Duty. So +2 for the Extreme Duty.

I went ahead and bought both. The 460 with 45 Colt ammo is like shooting 38 wadcutters in the 66. The 500 I bought came with 40 rds of ammo, now all I have is 40 rds of brass. I'm waiting for my Starline brass to come in.

Dump the Horton. Unless you are spending time backpacking in bear or wolf country. Heck I carry a riot shotgun in those areas. The Horton looks neat, but isn't the best shooter. If you are keeping just to look at it, keep the Horton. There is a reason there are so many minty and unfired short...

The marks aren't that bad. I'm sure it left S&W like that and is just a personal peeve. Alot of guys probably wouldn't even care. I just wanted to know if anyone else had similar swirls?

The swirls go from chamber to the end of the barrel and are even. Had to be done at the factory...

The lettering is 100% and the gun looks unfired. The flash highlights the swirls, but doesn't show how crisp the lettering is. In the past, I used scotchbrite to repair scuffed N frames and the lettering comes off quickly. I'm pretty sure this is factory, but I've never seen a swirl pattern like...

Its a 629 classic and the lettering on the barrel is unmolested. I know from experience if you brush, buff or polish the lazer engraved lettering will be gone or lightened.

I recently bought an unfired 629-4. The barrel has light swirl marks and looks almost like jeweling. Tried to photo and it doesn't show in the pictures ver well. The marks run the full length and are even on both sides. The receiver looks normal, like the other 2 I have, with light brushed...

Did a little more research and I think the 460 is the way to go. I have tons of 45 Colt ammo from cowboy shooting. It looks like Starline sells brass for both, but the 460 is in stock and you can use the Colt dies. All I have to do now is find one for reasonable. Then I'll have to live with 500...

Decided to add a bigger bore than my 629. Looking at either the 500 or 460. The 460 is appealing with the ability to use cheaper 45 Colt, but the 500 is a 500. Haven't found a screaming deal on either and I'm not sure which one to get. What do you guys think and don't say both? Thanks, BK
