Do I want a 460 or a 500?

Nothing wrong with the 460 but I think I prefer my 4" 500 but have not owned a 460. Having shot one, I feel no need for one. If I owned one, I'd prolly only shoot 460's and leave 45 Colts for the Ruger.
Given that, I don't know what the 460 can do that the 500 can't. Both are cost prohibitive to shoot unless you roll your own.

I would get the 460. You can shoot 45lc and 454 cassul round too.

fuzzybatman, what are you looking to get for the 460? PM if you want to.

I guess the poll is conclusive, I need both. Now to find a good deal on them. I really like the shorter barrel ones, but have seen very few. I sure wish I would have picked up one of the survival (not sure what they were called) pelican cased ones. They were relatively cheap when CDNN closed them out.

i've shot a 4in S&W .500. Tony Rumore of tromix has one and he has his own "special" handload with 650grn cast bullets. Talk about kick!!!! he told me if you can shoot a full cylinder through it you got some guts and i did. It felt like someone hitting you in the palm with a hammer but it did it.

I went ahead and bought both. The 460 with 45 Colt ammo is like shooting 38 wadcutters in the 66. The 500 I bought came with 40 rds of ammo, now all I have is 40 rds of brass. I'm waiting for my Starline brass to come in.

You don't always need to put the biggest hole in the Game your hunting to bring it down. Merry Christmas Everyone and may your game bag be heaping.

With eyes like mine, hitting any part of the animal is hard, the bigger the projectile the better chance I have.:o

I started off thinking I'd want a 500. After some time thinking it over I realized I don't need to try to appear more manly with 500's and hummers, so I decided when the time comes, I'll grab a 460. :)

JK 500 and hummer fans... I'm just teasin!

In fact, I WOULD like both a 500 and 460...the 500.. well c'mon it's a 500! and the 460... something about those high velocities really appeals to me... hitting 2300 ft/sec makes me smile.

Also.. interestingly I have a large supply of .45 long.... but no .45 to shoot!:(

Really though, to pick one is tough... and not a decision that should be taken lightly. Each has great reasons to buy it.
