What DA/SA pistol would you recommend?

SP2022 Sig or CZ P07. Both are dead reliable and accurate, good capacity, light, and comfortable to shoot. They also fit my hand really well. Both are readily available under $500 in these parts (Texas).

Arabic writing on dad's old knife

Hey guys I appreciate all the info. I know there is someone on here that is an expert in these things. I have seen so many strange things answered on here I thought this would be easy. Besides if you read it on the internet it must be true. The Mongolia provincial identifier thread made me think...

    Acquired another S&W 57 (this is #5)

I agree with TexMex, them thar are genuine Longhorn grips. Great find, just paint them burnt orange and you have got the look.

    Operation Pawnshop Resue

OK Rogue12153, I did not do too good, but here is what I found in the "Book". The Model 66-1 looks like 1981, 19-2 was made between 1961-1966, could not find a KJF prefix in my book, and the 5906 was made between 1989-1999. I did not show a K prefix in my book for the 5906. Now if the K7108xx...

    Victory data base

Thanks Ordnanceguy for your response. I thought it might be in that part of 1940. This is my first 5 screw S&W. It has been very interesting learning about these keepers. I passed on it the first time I saw it and went back to pick it up once I found out what it was after reading info on this...

    Pre Victory 6 Inch

Thanks guys, and it is 697543 serial number. I was reading this post to come up with 1940:http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-hand-ejectors-1896-1961/213805-pre-victory-model-38-s-w-6-south-african-contract-i-believe.html. There is a 708674 letter shipped in Jan 1941 posted by Lobo and a 685147...

    Pre Victory 6 Inch

Found this yesterday at a LGS. My first 38S&W. Looks like it might be from 1940. What can you tell me about this. I thought it was in great shape. Thanks, Bill

    5906 Dates?

Smee, The Book says RJF, not in the book so it is possibly a early example. The range it shows starts at TAA=1984 thru VHN=1998. VAD looks like maybe 1994 as the Book says VAM=1994. TYP looks like maybe 1992 or 1993 as the Book says THA1016-TVC7046=1991 and TZU=1993.

    6906 Issue......RESOLVED!!!

ColColt and Fastbolt are right about checking the mag follower. A friend of mine and me both bought 6906s that were ex CDC guns and we got 2 mags with each one. They all had some wear, but one had a rough worn follower and it consistently did not lock his slide back on the last round. That mag...

    5906 mfg year? Help

You are welcome and that is an early one. I bought a 5906 last month that was in great shape and is a good shooter with no issues. It is has a VAN prefix that puts it in 1994. The grips were a little banged up and the guys at S&W said they would have some new ones in a couple of weeks for around...

    5906 mfg year? Help

mbliss, I would guess 1988-1989 as TCB prefix is 1988 and TED prefix is 1989. Your TDK prefix should fall between those two.
