+1 on the HKS 940. I got one when I first got my M&P 9 FS and loved it because, as you pointed out, it doesn't require you to have something on which to rest the magazine. I liked it so much, I got a second 940 that works great with my XD .40.

Amen to this. I've been using an HKS with my M&P 9 FS since day one. It has handled around 1,500 rounds so far just like the pistol has...flawlessly. :D
I have the exact FS M&P9 for which you're looking except that it's a CA model so it comes with 10 round mags.

I use an HKS Model GL-940 magazine loader with the 10 round mags for my FS M&P9. Works like a champ and loads 10 rounds without any issues. Just sayin'.
