I would look into having one of the expert welders mentioned throughout the thread take care of it. Then shoot standard non-+P ammo, keep the recoil springs changed and drive on shooting it as a range gun only however.

It's good to hear your still out there making rods! If anyone here on the forum needs one made, I can vouch for the quality of Paul's work having picked up several rods from him; 1006, 4506, 4566. First class all the way!

What Bill said above. While I don't have Dawson's on my 3906, I have fitted several fiber optic fronts on some of my 5906's, TSW. Makes a night and day difference. Same for blacking out the rears, even though I haven't yet. Use Dawsons/Warren fiber optics on ALL my handguns; S&W, Glocks...

I will follow on Nicks post here. I gave him Pauls info. I found Paul's info here a few years ago. He has made two 1006 rods for me, plus a couple for the 4506/645, and recently one for a 4566. These are stainless steel, made exactly to the S&W spec for the rods, and has the spring loaded button...

I have run a 22lb spring in my 1006, now following a little bit of online research, backed up by Moore's post above. I am rethinking that, will be installing a Wolff 20lb instead.
