    Model 29 blow up

Given the potential liability issues, that's what I thought. However, they basically told me to go pound sand. I fear the OP will receive the same (lack of) consideration.

    Model 29 blow up

Someone suggested this very thing about my failure too. But all three of the final rounds looked identical and no different than any of the other thousands that were fired. Another suggestion from Hodgdon Powder was that possibly because of the fast burn rate of H-110 powder that the base of the...

    Model 29 blow up

Hmm, hadn't thought of that and it sounds totally plausible.

    Model 29 blow up

It would be interesting to find out indeed. The ID round that came with mine was a Winchester that looked just like any other.

    Model 29 blow up

I doubt it. S&W will deny any responsibility and Fiocchi will say that their ammo is within SAAMI specs leaving the OP up the creek. As far as my reloaded ammunition is concerned, my hand built race engines made more power and lasted longer than factory crate motors. I have absolute faith in...

    Model 29 blow up

I've been around this block with mine and my cylinder looks and measures the same as the one in my 629. I think there is a bad batch of this model. But getting S&W to accept that has been problematic to this point.

    Model 29 blow up

Based on my dealings with S&W about my 29-10 that failed in a very similar manner, ( http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1980-present/446602-29-10-durability.html) let me give you a heads up as to what you can expect. S&W will say that their guns are perfect and any failures are the fault...

Brand new before pulling the trigger even once. Not even cleaned yet.

Direct Personal Experience with High Round Counts

Less than 6000 rounds out of a brand new 29-10 before the forcing cone split. Not impressed by it or S&W. Now I'm logging every round through my brand new 629 6.5" Classic. Will it last any longer?

    29-10 durability

Sorry, I thought I had but guess not so here they are: I had fired 200+ rounds that morning including 48 - 7times fired Federal brass, CCI 300 primer 21.5 gr IMR 4227 and 240gr Campro TMJ seated to 1.60" 86 - same except for 23.6gr IMR4227 34 - 2times fired Starline with Winchester LP primer...

    29-10 durability

Yes, I never exceeded the maximum loads as published by Hodgdon Powder on their website. And there was one type of powder (HP-38) that I was very uncomfortable with due to difficult ejection even at a middle type load. With the same cases, primers and bullets, the same middling load of H-110...

    29-10 durability

Me neither which is why I never did. And as I've been told by S&W the use of any reloaded ammunition voids the warranty.

    29-10 durability

Believe me, I've got that message loud and clear now. And to be fair, S&W did. Or so they say. they only want $52 more than it cost originally. Or $112 less than what I can buy one off the shelf for.

    29-10 durability

Understood, but every bit of load data I found lists maximum never to be exceeded SAAMI approved specifications. So if handloads are built based on those specs they should be well within SAAMI specs. Then if the manufacturer says that their guns will handle any SAAMI spec ammo and the...

    29-10 durability

Well, you've got me by about 45-1/2 years and although I suspected as much, I've never found any manufacturer to come right out and say that using reloads voids warranties. That seems rather strange but no matter, it's too late now. I think the saying goes, “If you can't be a good example...
